I bought one new when I was working at my first dealership as a salesman.I wasn't even 19 yet.Mine was a1979 blue w gold pinstripe.I really liked it but I wanted a bike that was quicker handling than my XS11 was so i bought a new black 1980 Z1-R. Turns out the XS11 was faster so i got spanked racing it quite a bit! Oh well still had a hell of a lot of fun anyway lol!
I like the change to the round headlight. I find it a big improvement in the bike's appearance. I've been living with an 11 Special for 20 years. I don't tire of it.
I own a 74 750/4, 54k original miles, KZ 750 LTD running gear/suspension,triple disks, Dyna Ignition etc. with a Pops Yoshimura 4 into 1 header. Looks like the same pipe? What a sweet sound! Music to my ears!
Those just look prettier every time I see one. I have the '82 XJ1100J Maxim which is essentially the same machine but with the YICS addition. Resurrecting it finally after far too many years, about to install braided steel brake lines and either rebuild the calipers again or replace them. If the front caliper drags one more time I will consider all new custom NISSIN 6 pot calipers all around and I will customer fabricate all the brackets to mount them!
In their days they were considered as SUPERBIKES. Because of their weight, their performance and the way they were to be handled by EXPERIENCED riders. Now, that being said, do you think you could qualify???? If you're serious about riding a bike and do it in a healthy way, try for something more appropriate, like a 500 to 650 cc bike. They perform extremely well and give lots of riding fun. Don't fear big bikes, but show some respect and use your common sense!!!
