I was a little too young for that era but I missed the entire 1980s and 1990s era football. And to be honest if you're the 2000 season to about 2010 wasn't too bad either but after 2010 it sure went downhill.
Truly the closest the NFL ever got to a true Hall of Fame game. At least 20 players who played that day would eventually get enshrined in Canton as well as another 10 who should have been.
I miss it too, the rules were way more balanced and you could have great teams. Free agency, cap have insured mediocrity and add to that rule changes have made playing defense almost impossible
Thank you for loading this. It's a very important game in the history of football in this era. Although the Cowboys won another divisional championship, Roger Staubach said the beating he took in this game (23:27) was one factor that resulted in his retirement after the season. For the Steelers, they took particular joy in winning against a team they despised.
Good year to be a Pittsburgh sports fan Pirates won ( thier last one) world series Steelers won their 4th Superbowl (1980) against The Rams. Remember watching the game at a place called Raleigh Hills, it was a drug/Alcoholic Rehab place in Newport Beach, my mom was there for several days. I had struggles with it too, she's been gone 20 years( end of March)and I quit on my own with help and prayer, 24 years now, doing pretty good, even no beer either.
Many of the greatest players who ever played in the NFL played in this game. At least 20 players from both teams as well as both head coaches would go on to be enshrined in Canton as well as another 10 players who should have been.
70's Steelers all pretty much the same team 4 SB wins 2 back to back in 6 yrs plus all their other achievements and hall of fame players ! I think they will be the best NFL team to ever play the game for many yrs to come !
@@deputy3690 90s cowboys were good but they won 2 SBs from the Bills who like most AFC teams of the 90s weren't as competitive as the NFC. Then u have SB 30 where u can thank Neil O'Donnell as your Mvp. U look at the stats and the Steelers out played them in almost every aspect of the game.Take away the 2 ints that he threw and Steelers win that one. But a win is still a win. But no way were the 90s Cowboys better than the 70s Steelers.
@Ed G The Cowboys demolished the Forty Niners in the Championship game two years in row and outscored the Bills 82-30 in the two Super Bowls. The Cowboys were bigger and quicker than those Steeler teams to. Although we will never know which team was superior for sure, it is fun debating.

True Story about Me .. on Saturday October 27th 1979 i was in grade 5 an i Scored the Game Winning Touchdown in the Rain in Flag Football Youth League , i was 10.
The Steel Curtain vs Doomsday Defense. Hard hitters everywhere: Hollywood Henderson, Randy White, Cliff Harris, Donnie Shell, Mel Blount, Jack Lambert, Mean Joe, etc, etc, etc

Even in their 1977 championship season Steelers owned Cowboys. Steelers 28-13. First NFC team to beat Steelers on home turf since 1971 Rams would be 49ers 1981.
Why did Dallas think they were America's Team, when the Steelers were winning 4:Super Bowls in 6 years......and 2 of those, they Defeated Dallas? Dallas is just hype, let's count the playoff wins since 1980, and I'll spot you the Dallas Super Bowl win against the Steelers in 95. Yeah......America's Dream.......Not Pittsburgh Real Deal Steel!
🏍️ Small minded football fans will never understand that 'America's Team' isn't about being the best in the league. It's about hype, drama, worth, sales, television. Whoever wins the Super Bowl still loses the Money Bowl to Dallas. I live 1000 miles from Texas, but one year recently all 16 games were televised. 📺
@@mikethebike2456 you're 100%correct. Doesn't matter who's doing good or bad every season, I root for the Steelers, and Any Team playing Dallas, Baltimore or New England. The Cowboys lost their Cred, when they fired Tom Landry......just a shameless Jerry Jones Dick Move.....first of many. You're right ....just a Showboat Franchise followed by Dipshit Fans Worldwide
It was just a comment a commentator made one day when Dallas lost and it just stuck. The thought was that the whole nation checked to see if Dallas lost or won and the rest is bs history. They are definitely not America's team. But it's got blowed out of proportion every year.
Pittsburgh Steelers 1970S best team ever better than the 85 Bears better than the 49ees and differently better would destroyed Tom Brady Patriots the Pittsburgh Steelers were the best NFL team ever eleven hall of Fame on the Steelers 1970s
@@topJimmyP1984 Very aware of that game. And I'm sure you're aware it was 2 years before the Steelers drafted 4 future Hall of Famers (Swann, Stallworth, Lambert, Webster). I have great respect for the Cowboys of the 70s. The Steelers were just better when they had to be......And Cowboy fans always go to the Jackie Smith drop. That drop was in the 3rd quarter, and would've tied the game. The Steelers didn't stop scoring and they wouldn't have stopped scoring.........Let's flip things. Cowboys got revenge in Super Bowl XXX. But, but, but.....if Neil O'Donnell hadn't thrown those picks...excuses. Neil O'Donnell wasn't worthy to carry Aikman's gym bag. Therefore, the Cowboys were better in the mid 90s. No excuses.
@@natonic6538 well put..as a dallas fan I always said O'DONNELL made up for Jackie Smith but I say his drop was 1 of 5 key plays in sb 13.. The others.. Dallas is driving 1st drive of the game down to Pitt 30 or 35 yd line with nice runs..then for some reason get cute and try a flea flicker which they fumble away.. Stallworth catches a short pass and outrun whole Dallas D 75yds for a TD.. Swann and Barnes get tangled up and go down causing a Def pi flag.... 3rd down draw play Franco scores like a 22yd to run...Randy White tries to field ensuing ko w a cast on his hand and fumbles...game over..also Hollywood running his mouth before the game probably hurt too...We couldn't beat you guys in that Era when it counted so hats off to the greatest dynasty stiil...70s Steelers...the Cowboys were real good too and could beat anyone else except PITT...And I don't count pre season games lol..
Really?!!? They couldn't even get a field goal with White at QB! What game were you watching? What a moronic statement. White was overrated. He couldn't hold Bradshaw's jockstrap! You're a fool!
Staubach said he had at least 19 concussions after he retired he made $760 million and I believe he is now 80 years old with all his faculties the dirty little secret that awful people like Roger Goodell don’t want you to know is that 99% of NFL players are cognitively fine long after they retire
That’s because the NFC was weak during that decade. The only two teams the Cowboys had to really fear during the 70’s was the Vikings and the Rams. The Steelers not only played in the toughest division in the AFC Central with the Oilers, Browns and Bengals, they also had to go through the Raiders and the Dolphins to get to the Super Bowl.
