to my knowledge there was not a short bed option for a F-250, The F-150 would use coils in the front and a 5 lug Dana 44 in the front with a 9" in the rear. This has leaf springs in the front and the Dana 60 rear diff.
Professor Grimm Really to start with a 150 swb would have been easier. The only reason to shorten a lwb like this is cost. Its far cheaper to buy a long bed and shorten it then to buy a short bed.
That's a nice looking 79 F250 and I'm sure that 460 Big Block is a beast. I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,501 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since.
I had a 79 F150 and it came with a slug of a 302. Got smart and found a 71 4V Cleveland that came 11to 1 from the factory and stepped up the cam smoothed out the intake and exhaust runners put a 850 Holley Dbl pump and a old Edelbrock aluminum intake sitting in front of a top loader 4 sd. That little Cleveland produced 570 hp with almost 600 foot lbs of torque!!! The 460 was considered a boat anchor. People also used to call it the Smog monster! The only way those things make any kind of real power is you have to throw the heads away and buy either some after markets or I think you can use the 429 head which isn't all that good either but at least it's much better than the stock 460 head!!! Btw my 79 long bed would have drug the truck in this video!!!
The only problem is that 460 crate engine only makes about 225hp. I found a '72 460 (which has about 350 hp) to put in my '78 and I had no problem street racing from time to time. Any motor after about '74 has much lower compression due to the national fuel shortage and epa regulations that happened. The one little thing I want you to do is add an inexpensive exhaust crossover pipe right before the mufflers, you'll be surprised how throaty it will sound afterwards.
Really depends on what crate engine was bought….different levels of crate engines available. 68-72 could net 365 hp…easy 425-450 with mild mods and a little port work.
unlike the other haters that pick out negative comments, THE TRUCK IS A MASTERPIECE SUPER HEAVY DUTY BAD ASS TRUCK. TO ME ITS A WELL BUILT PERFECTION! LOVE IT.
..... This is a perfect example of why not to look at cars that you want if you don't have the money to get them, aha! Seriously one of the greater looking ones I've seen, man. I'm envious!
Nice truck. I have a 460 in my 34 Ford Coupe. Just finished rebuilding it and fired it up the other night. With 3 inch pipes and 650 Demon Carb it should go pretty well.
ya it moved out pretty good with that 460, i threw a 522 stroker in it last year and its definitely a little quicker now but that was a good motor! sold the 460 though
2002yz250 I have a 390 in my '74, would like a 460 but every block I see out there is at least 2k and the ones on craiglist that are for like $500 have rust all over and what not. I'll probably just build up the 390 and hope to get 400hp, shouldn't be too hard but a 522 like you're talking about that would be a dream come true! lol
2002yz250 my buddy has a 460 block that has DOVE stamped on the heads, so is it a 460 with cleveland heads? would it be worth getting? he only wants like 400 bucks for it, and its complete
Dove means D0VE with a zero. That means manufactured in 1970. D is 7, 0 is 0, for 70. Those are damn good heads. A '68 set of heads for example would be stamped C8VE. C is 6 and 8 is 8. D1 and D2 start getting shitty because of the wimpyness of everything starting in 71 and getting worse each year until 73 or 74, when it was all crap.
ya i know, my gran torino sport has the 9 inch rear and you are right the truck has the dana 60, i accidentally said it had the 9 inch, got them mixed up for some stupid reason.
very nice truck. working on a 78 now that i hope to complete and have as nice as yours. i noticed you have fender exit headers and the tips come out the rear BETWEEN the frame rails. how is the piping ran and does it interfear with anything underneath?
Fenderwell headers how did u get back on the inside of the frame? I have a 78 bronco with a 460 an just got the l&l fender wells want to run the exhaust out the back
6.44 what ford parts or combinations makes that tight clean hard lifter noise? thats hard to come by, a good combination of ford parts for 351 cleveland is performance pistons holley 6140 carb solid steel lifters a 400 cam, performerLB2v 351 manifold xtra large sump 2 into one 2.5 inch flow master exhaust system, its an extra deep thumpy sounding 351 cleveland that revs high,
nice, ya so far it has been a strong reliable motor, and ya it sounds alot better now, in that video i had the flowmaster original 40s, now i got the super 10s
@@2002yz250 awesome 👍. My 460 engine has had a little work done to it but has the small chamber heads. I found a dove a 1970 engine that I am planning on rebuilding with about 500-550hp. Take care
This guy don’t know what he’s talking about when discussing axles. A 9” ford doesn’t have eight lugs. The nine inch has 5 on 5.5 lug pattern while the Dana 60 has 8 on 6.5 lug pattern. Also the Dana 60 in F250 trucks is a full float axle. The 9” is not.
strength is the product of struggle It was a guesstimate, and it's only a 3 speed automatic and 355 gears, gearing has a lot to do with launching. for sure was not 500hp but was close to 475. crank horsepower not wheel horsepower
