RIP Jerry Noonan, who could do it all, and all at an exceptional level. One of the greatest ever. That opener left me in the position I usually kind of smile at when others do it - "Man... drum corps when it was at its best...' (i usually don't think then is better than now, or vice versa,, but it's hard to listen to Jerry blowing like that without going...'yeah, baby, that's what it's supposed to sound like). Great arrangement there as well. And visual coordination.... oh, and percussion. Just the whole ball of wax.
I was fortunate to see them compete several times. They would bring the crowd to their feet many many times during a performance. They for the epitome of what a real drum and bugle Corps should be, and I hope one day we'll be again. Today is May 3rd 2022.
I stopped marching in 1969 - the change from then to 1979 was huge. I don't love the percussion changes, but the music and the marching is so superior there's no comparison.
My dad Was a part of this group and this performance when He was younger. Today he found this video and sent it to me. And me being in my high school’s marching band I was really happy to see this. I have a feeling my future Child will be just like their mother or grandpa😄
@@sharoncastigliego3637What was the weight of the rifles during that period? I read that rifles of the 50s and 60s were surplus Lee Enfelds that weighed 9 pounds or so. However, the more complex rifle work seen here seems to suggest that rifles lost a pound or two somewhere down the line. Do you rember how heavy the North Star's rifles were?
