Hale Irwin won his second of three U.S. Open titles in 1979 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, where he topped a leader board that included Jerry Pate, Gary Player, Larry Nelson and Jack Nicklaus.

Hale Irwin, one of the most under rated players of all time. He has 20 PGA and 45 Senior tour victories with 3 U.S. Open wins in 1974, 1979, and 1990. His earnings of over $33 million is a testament to this man's amazing career. At age 74 he made 3 cuts in the 2019 season on the Senior tour. The man is a legend in the game of golf!

Yeah, he probably does actually count as underrated. I'm a casual fan of golf and I've definitely heard of him, but I didn't realise that he'd won multiple US Opens or that he was considered 'the greatest player in Champions Tour history', to quote Wikipedia.

He is a "hardly spoken of legend" in the game of golf. His greatest attribute which many won't comprehend is, he always played within himself.

Thanks so much for uploading stuff like this, it's a real slice of history, in this case from the year before I was born. I've learned so much about the history of golf from RU-vid over the last couple of years, it's just so great to have access to these videos.

1974 US Open 2-iron 30:15. Final Round 2-iron 1990 16:21. Monday playoff 2-iron 1990 2:33:42.

The timestamps you US Open addicts need. This video 2-iron on the Par 5 13th on a slopping fairway 12:15. Hale's 2-iron in the RU-vid 1974 US Open on 18th hole final round. Hale's 2-iron in final round 16th hole (the hole that separated that field); finally, his best 2-iron to win Monday playoff on the 16th hole, hooking it around trees on left to get to pin into wind, and uphill.
