In this Satsang, Ma discusses Chitta Prasadah (placidity of the Mind), as discussed in the text ‘Sarva Vedanta Siddhanta Saara Sangrahah’. The placidity that is spoken of here is independent of any external factors; It expresses spontaneously from within and makes us calm in all situations-favourable or unfavourable.
To have placidity of the mind, a seeker must cultivate more and more of Sattva guna. He must yearn to grow more saatvika in speech, activities, behaviour and interactions. To loosen the knots of the mind and feel the freedom, he must take recourse to Sattva guna.
The text emphasizes that a seeker must follow spiritual disciplines (Yama and Niyamas) with one-pointedness. The Yama disciplines are non-hurting, truthfulness, non-stealing, celibacy or dwelling in Brahman and non-accumulation of wealth. The Niyama disciplines include bodily and mental purity, contentment, austerity, study of spiritual texts or introspection and surrender to God/Atma. For a spiritual seeker, every Yama and Niyama quality must be associated with spiritual knowledge. Through the disciplines, he must connect with the all-pervading Self/God.
Ma discusses ‘Ishwara Pranidhana’ or unconditional surrender to the divine, without any expectations. A true seeker must have complete, wholesome, unswerving love for God. He must feel protected, sheltered by God. Surrender is a feeling where one feels enveloped by the presence of God/Self everywhere and takes refuge in him. This surrender happens only when the mind is free of the clutter of desires, ego and possessiveness.
When the feeling of surrender is wholesome, there is a complete sense of belongingness. The mind thinks: “I belong to the Supreme/God. God alone is! He is the controller and designer of everything. I have no control over anything.” Ma urges listeners never to forget the aim of being connected to God/Self in all thoughts, actions, interactions.
