Wow, how ironic. He rode a lot locally in the desert, and a guy loaned him a bike to race when he was 18, just like Hannah. You would think that would be a friendship bond. :)

I used to race on his track south of San Antonio. Sometimes on practice days he would show up and ride the track with us amateurs. He was the nicest guy and would always spend some time hanging out and giving some instruction. I can remember several times where I'd be riding my fastest and he would just blow by me like I was sitting still. He'd come on you and pass so fast it was scary. He was so damn smooth and so damn fast. I loved when he'd pass me lol. It was a thrill.

I rode at kents track in san antonio what a nice person. I raced in a jerry kids fund raiser race, sponsers paid you by how many laps you rode it was a all day race. Kent would pass you every lap like you were standing still

Kent Howerton is the Only rider out of TEXAS to be a 3 time National Champ 500cc 1976, 250 1980,1981. I was a young kid and would watch him down in 700 acers on the southeast side of San Antonio. He would ride this dirt bike down the street and get all of his friends from the neighborhood & to 700 acers thy all went for hours.

Thanks for posting up this one of a kind classic, been looking for it for some time! I used to have this special on vhs but that tape never survived 'time'. I did the same & digitized the rest of my vhs SX classics!

And that was just after electrical tape. I think that is what started the phrase, "go big". :)
