That thing that you call a "pin" is called a "Crown Key". You use the tapered end to open the access panel latches beside locking the bus. CROWN KEY. I still have one from the 1970's when I drove Crowns in Los Angeles.

What a great bus you got there! Do you know what model of transmission is in it? I'm thinking Allison HT740 but could be wrong. If you still have it, can you please do a super long driving video on it? I'd love to hear it running up and down through the gears out on the road, cruising, all that good stuff. Please let me know ASAP.

Awesome! The 855 powered Crowns seem to be quite rare.

If it was orange than most likely it was a transportation charter services bus in orange ca.

Put two gallons of Power Service in the tank, top it off, then drive it for about 100 miles or so and that smoke will clear right up. Then add one gallon at every fill up to keep it clean. Nice find!

Hey! BEAutiful coach here. I am diligently searching for some information Wondering if you might have some info I have a 1979 crown coach and need to repair the airbrakes. Wondering if you happen to know what parts I should buy as replacements for: 4x small airbags on the very rear tires 2x large airbags on the front tires 2x valves that supply airbags with air on rear axel

Ive been looking at a 3 axle crown. I'm not really sure on the exact name of it. Its set up like yours. But it has the step up in the roof kind of like the Scenic Cruiser's. It has an 8v71 and a 5spd. Ive always had a soft spot for old coaches. I hope to see more videos of your bus.

How much would one of those cost?

I picked both mine for 8500 for one and 7000 for the other.

Cummins another familiar sound. Is the Glowplug active on the intake manifold? This bus doesn't have the TRW/Ross power steering?

My mistake.... Now I see the TRW logo....

When I was trained at Associated, decades ago, it was referred to as a "Crown Key" not a pin, which also opens all of the compartment doors, and engine access panel. Also to gain access to the pull switch and start button under the engine access panel. Just in case you loose a the ignition key....

Curious does this have the anti-lock brake system installed? I know the older Cummins buses did not as it had not been introduced yet. First time someone cut in front of me in a Crown like this one and I hit the brakes, it was as if I hadn't. Scary feeling.

I don't think it has ABS.

It would not be too difficult to find out.... At the time it was referred to as the 921 System.

We had one of these when I was in high school. It was a 10 speed. Not sure what engine it had.

It runs and drives but it's not registered yet. I had it out about six weeks ago and it ran and drove just fine. I hope to get plates for it this year.
