Here we have a 1980 Gottlieb Buck Rogers pinball machine for your viewing pleasure.
This is one of the better Gottlieb System 1 machines, in my opinion. The playfield flows pretty well and the captive ball is a neat feature that lights the yellow drop targets for increased bonus multiplier opportunities. This is done depending on how many shots it takes the get the ball from "base" to "return to base" . Doing so in one shot scores 10k points, lights the kickout hole to collect bonus, lights the extra ball lane and resets and lights the yellow drops to increase the multiplier. Completing B-U-C-K lights the red drops for special. It's not a deep game, by any stretch, but the shots are fun and it looks great.

Hey London pinball props to you for a well shot video ! A good example of the inevitable transformation from E.M. to S.S. It's A good example of the transition from bells and chimes to audio sounds and attempted speech - a sort of hey we gotta keep up with trend so let's wing it ! In my opinion that was a failed attempt. Gameplay is good and solid ,table is laid out well but let's face it keep the chime units untill ya have it perfected ! I'm a huge Gottlieb fan but I never drove an Edsel !

For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of the early solid state sound boards. They're charming.

Hi, great video. What is System 1 machine? I have played several tables of Gottlieb, from Central Park to the nineties (in fact, I prefer them over Williams, for example), but I don't know if they are divided in categories. From my point of view, the gameplay of pre-90 tables is not achieved by the more modern tables, full of ramps and very different layouts that feel to me more "automatic". What a pity that Pinball Arcade is not working on new Gottlieb tables, a manufacturer that it is not receiving the love it deserves.

"System 1" was Gottlieb's first solid state (electronic) hardware system. It was introduced in late 1977 with Cleopatra and was used until early 1980 when Gottlieb introduced their "System 80" hardware platform starting with The Amazing Spider-Man. System 80 (and its 80A and 80B variants) were used until 1989. in Late 1989, Gottlieb introduced "System 3" which was technically their third hardware platform. This would end up being the system that they would use until they went out of business in 1996. You can search up all of the games under each system using the Internet Pinball Database at ipdb.org. That would be great if I still had those games kicking around. I don't exactly have the space or money to keep every machine that comes through the door. Nor did I actually own them when I shot the videos. Unfortunately, the old standard definition video footage can't just be made into HD.
