This is all I have of this game, just the third period and the overtime.
The Rangers always had trouble beating the original Atlanta based Flames in the 1970s, and had lost to them 7-3 at MSG just a week before the Playoffs began. But as they say, you can throw out all the stats, the Playoffs are a new season. Atlanta lead 1-0 after two periods, but Steve Vickers would score the tying goal in the 3rd period. Phil Esposito almost won it in the final seconds. Vickers would then score the 2-1 overtime winner, barely 30 seconds into it. A rare overtime win at home for the Rangers.
This is the Atlanta feed, with future Islander play-by-play man Jiggs McDonald on the call. Seems strange hearing him and not seeing Islanders on the ice. The Rangers won the best of five series 3-1. The game four clincher, the last NHL game at Atlanta for the Flames, is available on You Tube here: • Video .
