1980s Hoover S3126 Sensotronic System 1 Vacuum Cleaner

A lovely example of a 1980s (probably 1983 or 1984) Hoover Sensotronic System 1 cylinder vacuum cleaner. System 1 was the bottom of the range with a single speed 900 watt motor and none of the fancy features such as remote control and power heads featured on models further up the range.
This particular model had a bit of a nasty surprise up its sleeve, but I managed to complete the video without soiling my underpants.

Loved my Hoover Sensotronic system 1. This one is exactly the one I had. I had it for about 5 years, which was really good because I used it every day! I had it in the 80's! 🙂

My grandad had one like that was still going in ‘04 long gone now though didn’t realise these were from the ‘80s his was handed down from family ain’t seen one in years, great vid !

Very nice example of a base model Sensotronic. Yours was made in February 1983. It isn’t in bad shape for its age. Nice video. The smoke was just the suppressor popping. Just take it out and bypass it by connecting the wires together with a little block terminal. It should run fine then. 🙂

Bypass the suppressor by joining the blue to blue wires, and brown to brown wires . You can chop the spade connectors off and use a choc block connector, well, thats how I'd do it anyway. Suppressors are not needed these days as analogue TV switched off years ago and its all digital now, which is not affected like the old TV system was.

Well that went bang big style - 22:47 lol. Exploding electronics are just one of the perils of buying a 36 year old vacuum cleaner. Date code 302 dates it to Feb 1983.

Roger, did that piece of masking tape have the little bit of plastic that was broken off stuck to it? I thought I could see something dark adhering to the underside of it.

26:13 Capacitor burned, they smell when that happens, just need to change it by a similar values one, it has to have the exact same numbers(voltage, current, farads), after that the Hoover is new. If you touch the Capacitor bare hands on the wrong place you can get a shock so you should be isolated always. This vacuum cleaner has a thing that is gold, it uses only 900Watts and nowdays you almost never have that. Somebody offered me one and i found your video :), this vacuum cleaner lasts 40 years i had one before another Hoover model and it lasted also like 30 years, Hoover is probably the best Vacuum cleaner brand ever.

Hoover is no longer a good brand as they are Chinese owned and everything is made in China. All new domestic vacuum cleaners sold in the EU and UK have to be 900 watts or under and most models are well below that now.

@@ibaisaic almost everything is made in China and Asia somewhere nowdays, i disagree... still is a good brand, for me maybe not for you, there may be lower wattage but when I see on store or online usually they have 1200W or 2000W and many even more, so a vacuum cleaner that has 41 years old on 900W for me is still gold. Try that on a Samsung, LG, Dyson, they may endure but I wanna see 41 years. The Hoover ones i used they were not vacuuming on plain house cleaning only they were used on industrial way vacuuming every piece of crap sometimes even vacuuming water on car floors that over 41 years and they never died, right now I will be using the Sensotronic again to vacuum a house attic full full of construction junk, real thin dust like ciment and i know it will still perform ok the Hoover.

I assumed you lived in the UK or the EU because if you did you will not find brand new vacuum cleaners above 900 watts with the exception of some wet dry models. As the filtration on the Sensotronic is not up to modern standards, the fine dust will pass through the bag and filter and into the motor. The Sensotronic is a domestic machine and not designed for what you intend to use it for. Hoover are my favourite vintage brand when they were made in the UK, but that Hoover has long gone. The German made Sebo cleaners are my favourite modern brand as they still have very good build quality and reliability, or a British made Numatic would also be a good choice, especially for cleaning up mess during a house renovation.

Yes bad luck about the soppesser going bad Roger I had one go in my 1961 Hoover Constellation I replaced mine with a new one.good luck with it.good Machine's and I love the colour Too

Poo can almost smell the burning through video, troublesome suppressor 🙈 id solder the cable then use appropriate electrical tape to insulate.

Sensotronic cleaners were the future back in the 1980s and still look amazing today, great review with special effects! You should do a collaboration with RU-vidr Bigclivedotcom on vacuum cleaner suppressors.
