I know that car. That engine used to be in my moms 71 Chevelle. It is an LS7 454. From what I remember an LS6 cam was put in it. Balanced and blue printed. Triple valve springs. All port matched. Carb is a 1150 dominator. Never got to experience the full potential of it but got to hear is sing to 8000. Most beautiful noise I ever heard as a kid. I wonder what happened to this car. Sat parked on a trailer for a long time.

All I know about it is that the guy who owned it for many years passed away and his family sold the car to the guy that brought it to us to see if it would run and drive. He has since sold it to someone in Austin, TX and they are going to restore it. Thanks for watchin'.

If that is a Ls7 they had to change the camshaft in it because those cams had a bunch of duration you would have heard that as soon as it started they also had 12 to 1 compression so it wouldn't run on today's pump gas but you could run it on e85 with a carburetor set up for e85 you cannot truly tell what a engine is without taking it apart I have a big block that is a 427 bored 0.60 over so it's a 439 but all the inturnles are in a 454 block because the block was broke many years ago so if that is a true LS7 they tammed it down alot and that would explain why there is no Vin stamped on the front pad they were over the counter engines and never put in and car or truck from the factory that is a rare find would love to own it.

The only motor in the camaro that is a holy grail is the 302DZ motor that is I believe a 327 block with a 289 crank and this makes a very short stroke rev happy motor that was specifically designed for nascar to meet the motor size regulations to race! It has been said to me that they make anywhere from 450-550HP from the factory and would very easily rev to 8000RPM out of the box!

I own an '81 Z28 D5A 350 block 4 speed t--top PW car, with 34,000km or 22,000m on it. It's a "Canadian Special" one of 3025 that were made for Canada only! The only way you could get a z28 with a 4 speed was with a 305. All 350's had an automatic in the US in a z28. (emission laws) in the US.

That is awesome! My dad has an 80 model Z/28 and he has owned a crap ton of Camaros over the years mostly second gens and third gens. I saw where you pointed out that the car has been unregistered since ‘03 but there’s evidence that the car has been tinkered on at some point in time after that year. That Spectra air filter wasn’t available until the mid to semi late 2000’s (other brand of course already had their own versions), but that specific Spectra full open element filter came out in the mid 2000’s. Definitely a very solid looking Camaro. The brake master cylinder came out of a third gen Camaro or a 88-98 Chevy pick up truck. That car would have originally had a cast iron brake master cylinder so someone has upgraded the master cylinder. It’s good that it has the support rods in the front corners of the engine bay those are very hard to find nowadays. What a cool find! Keep making videos like these! Love it!

The big block is a ton of weight for that car the torque that it gives is nice but they handle like crap with a big block in them since the ass end is so light in them cars need some at least aluminum heads on that thing to lighten the front end up or a go with a nice small block or LS because the lighter you can make the front ends of them cars the better unless you want to have no control of the ass end and with a posi it would make you spin right out really easy.

I can vouch for handling like crap , my first car was a 79 berlinetta with a mild mods . At 21 years old it couldn't stop itself at 100 mph and run a stop sign. Made the right turn and and only took a wooden stake to passenger door after the ditch on the wrong side of the road . Was 16 and got into a fight with step dad and had shotgun shoved in my face just before getting in the car

Good luck on the "mouse stuff"! I sold my '69 SS el Camino to my friend and he willed it to my daughter when he passed. It hadn't been started in 23 years and 15 of them were in a barn surrounded by black berries. Mice thought the exhaust pipes and Hookers were a hotel. One of the cylinders stopped with the valves both open due to the overlap. I did everything right: new oil & filter, primed the hell out of it, removed the plugs and put three good squirts of oil in all the cylinders, and then cranked it with the distributor in so everything was oiled! Put the plugs in and fresh clear premium and it fired right up, ran maybe 5 seconds and died. It did this about 5 times. The last time, I heard a little "klink" when it stopped and it wouldn't turn anymore. It was nothing major as long as major isn't the #5 exhaust valve corroded down to 1 13/16" dia. and broke off it took out a 1 1/2" x 4" piece out of the side of the cylinder. The good news? The original block was gone before I bought it back in 1991. Found a great deal on a '72 402 short block so, it's alive again! BTW, Ive got an LS6 with the same block. It was cast in march '72 but, the numbers on the front say it's a '70 LS6 with a th400.

The worst one I ran into was my 1969 Super Bee. It sat in a barn for 26 years and the mice and rats ate everything. They filled the rear quarters with cactus and the trunk was about 8"-10" deep with stuff. The seats were literally full of stuff. Had to wear a respirator to be able to enter it. Thank for watchin'.

That crap trans isn't going to handle no 500hp BBC!! ROFL!! Gonna need a built TH350 or TH400 in that thing. If you wanna stay with manual trans, prepare to drop some bucks for one that will handle that kind of torque. It definitely has potential to be a sweet ride! P.S. Learn to set timing! T = Tonawanda 0716 = July, 16th XCH = XCH is the suffix for the over the counter 454 LS7 crate engine. This engine was purchased over the GM parts counter, it started life as a bad ass piece, handle it with loving care! If nobody has changed any parts out of this engine, you have a 12.25:1 compression engine. You will need to run high octane fuel or set your timing way back. Don't cause detonation, it will destroy your engine. 4 bolt main, heavy duty rods, forged piston, steel crank, req port heads. It's badass. With right fuel and timing, should be an easy 600+hp engine. Enjoy! 💪

Manual transmission late second generation Camaros are a heck of a score. I don’t know why everyone in the ‘70s ordered the auto trans. It’s supposed to be a sporty car! I had a 1972 RS clone and a 1978 Type LT. I think the auto Z-28 got 3.42 gears and the manual got 3.73….or vice versa. All the base models received ridiculously tall 2.41 gears 😆

it is most likely a Z28. the P in the 5th digit of the vin is for both Sport Coupes and Z28. the H in the 8th digit is for the 305, which is the LG4/Z28 engine. the 10 digit is B for 1981, in 81 the Z28 only had the 305 available with the 4speed and the 350 LM1 with the automatic. from the vin number it looks like it was built in early May of 1981 at the Van Nuys assembly plant in LA. the first car built in may was 16093 and the last car built in May was 178115. so most likely the first week in May. they made about 3756 Camaros a week at the LA plant. so defiantly first week of May. also i can tell form the floorboard of the car, that it is an original factory 4 speed T-top car. very nice find. these fenders look original to the car, so i suspect its an original Z28. on LA built cars there is no markings to tell if it is a real z28. only way to tell 100% is the build sheet. the good news is the LA cars were used as rolling trash bins as they were assembled and usually had built sheet stuffed all over in them. usually under the front seats, under the carpet, and on top of the gas tank. my 1971 SS 396 4 speed car had 2, one on top of the gas tank, and one stuff up under the dash in the wiring behind the glove box. from the trim tag, it had blue custom cloth interior, vode 26C and 21L and 21U are the paint codes for Light Blue. so looking at the paint in the trunk and the paint on the inside of the engine compartment, i am pretty confident that this is an actual Z28 4 speed top car.

This kind of reminds me of a Z28 I saw at a car show years ago.. A guy pulls in and parks a pretty nice 79 Z28. He gets out and opens the hood. There sat a Ford 292 Y block truck motor, complete with the stock 2 bbl and the exhaust crossover pipe over the front top of the engine. Inside the car, the floor was cut out for the stock granny low 4 speed-the transmission was mostly exposed. I stood back and listened for comments. You should have heard the Chevy guys CRY! Also, a 79 Z28 clone, but has a 454cid/th400 with OD and a 71 SS 350cid/ 4-speed corner carver with all factory drive train, but has all modern/ QA1 suspension front and rear... 2nd generation Camaros are the best...!!!

The casting number is a Tonawanda 72-75 454 casting, but a LOT of those were 're-tasked' to other sizes...you have to look at the deck plate for positive ID...you're looking for 'CTB' specifically. If 'CTB' is stamped (not cast) into the deck plate, it is most-likely a 402 (1/8th inch smaller bore) than a 454. A NUMBER of people have made this same mistake, only to tear it down and find they had a mysterious 402, where they think it should be a 454. Someone below says they 'knew the car' from childhood...but if it were an LS7, if would OF COURSE have aluminum heads...which they don't appear to be (which is VERY MUCH in contradiction to a 72-75 casting date, to start with...). Check for your deck plate stamping number...it is the 'final say' on what that engine is...as it tells you what the raw casting was finally 'machined out' to be.

it looks like someone took that car drag racing, the ladder bars would have been needed for traction control with that LS7. also cars running in the 11.99 and fast would have required a Scatter shield bell housing (that looks like an old Lakewood unit), and a drive shaft safety loop. the carb looks like a Holley Dominator. also looks like it may have had factory AC. the oil cooler bypass in not a 100% that its a 4 bolt. but most 4 bolt blocks do have the oil bypass fittings, on 1970-72 big block Camaro's, there is a 45-degree fitting that moves the pursue unit out of the way of the clutch cross bar. that trans looks like a Muncie. I hate to see them that broken up, I love old 4 speed cars.

Pretty sure an LS7 is a small block Corvette engine introduced in 2008
@shadvan9494
@shadvan9494 Месяц назад
@@jeffbarkley3915 the original LS series engines were Mark IV Big Block Chevys. LS-1 was a 427, introduced in 1969 that made 335HP, the LS-5, 6 and 7 were introduced in October of 1970. the LS-5 was a 454 making 365HP passenger cars and 390hp in the Vette, the LS-6 454 is infamous for its 450HP. The LS-7 was intended to replace the L88 and ZL1 engines for secret factory backed racing clients, just like the L88 and ZL1 427s, however GM lifted the ban on racing, so they were never installed in production cars, however production of the engine had already started, GM decided to offer these engines as over the counter crate engines. in both short block and long block form. they were extremely popular and GM continued production of them in to the late 80s. the LS-4 was introduced in 73 and made 275 net HP as compared to the prior engines that were rate in Gross HP. the LS4 gross HP would be around 325HP. the LS4 is the most common 454 as it was also used in both light and heavy duty trucks, motor homes, and marine applications. variants of it were used until the introduction of the Gen V big block in 1991. when the L19 454 replaced it. during that time both LS6 and LS7 engine were available over the counter from GM of high-performance application, and a warranty replacement. in fact they also offered L88 and ZL1 CanAm blocks and heads as replacement until the mid 70s until supplies ran out, but they kept production of the LS6 and LS7 engines going in to the late 80s. I personally owned a 1976 Hondo drag boat with a LS7 in it. it was really fast, but it dropped a valve and I replace it with an L88. the L88 was much more powerful and revved higher than the LS7. GM resurrected the LS RPO codes for the gen 3 small blocks in 1997. but to be honest the only thing the LS series engine share with the small block chevy is the 4.4 inch bore spacing. and there is no parts interchangeability between gen 1 or gen 2 small blocks. hope this clarifies things for you.

You asked for speculation on the horsepower rating on that LS-7 …… I say enough to frag a 4 speed …😏😜. Looks like possibly a Lakewood bellhousing assembly also ahead of that now worthless 4 speed ( it’ll make a great coffee table conversation piece however😆). I was kinda hoping to hear that baby run ( a whole lot better than those pops & farts anyway) and am a little saddened you cut the video short . That Holley Dominator Carb was an eye opener when you popped off the filter lid . Someone put a lot of money into that car , and in the right hands and with some tuning finesse could be a real sleeper out on the streets at night , especially with those cast iron manifolds and big Hemi Sized turbo mufflers . Keeps it pretty much in “ Stealth -mode “ Hopefully either you , or someone else will get this baby back out on the road , one headlight , patina & bondo & primer & all ,and shake up a few Tesla owners .😎👍
