This is the Promotional film GM put out for the 1982 Corvette. I know it wasnt the best year but it was the LAST of the C3's!! and they only made alittle over 18 thousand of them!! Enjoy!!
@@daytonfl6859 Like any car.....it depends on the condition when you get it and how far you want to go with it. If it's nice.....it's cheaper than if it's been abused. A new paint job, engine & trans rebuild, interior redone can run into lots of money unless you can do some of it yourself.
Hummm... I've owned an 82 since 2007 and it's been pretty far from reliable, mainly because it eats batteries. Some sort of battery drain and I've taken it to a bunch of mechanics and they have yet to figure out what is happening. That and it just goes out of tune by itself. Obviously some sort of electrical problem somewhere, but I haven't been able to pin down what it is or where. But, with that said, it's an awesome car - and gets an amazing amount of attention.
@@ConsciousRobot WRONG!! and how many Vette's have YOU owned, loud mouth?? And those "goofy" headlights were there from '68-'82 for your info. The G4s were the ugliest in my opinion and YES I owned one of those too!!
@@USCG.Brennan that's really mature! How can someone be wrong about something that's completely subjective? I don't personally like the way it looks. To each their own dude. Lighten up.
I'd like you to show me where I made any non-opinion based claims as factual. All I have done is stated *my personal opinion* about the aesthetic of the car. You must have deleted the comment, I assume because you realize I didn't actually make "two direct objective statements as factual" as you said. Don't be so damn uptight because someone has a different opinion than you about something. I'm going to move on now because this is silly.
Yes, and it's nothing nice. Already in the 70ies at least the last transparent coating was applied by machines to in most factories to avoid stains et. plus a couple years of painting without respiratory gear equals toxic-induced brain damage.
Damn. People are just that ignorant. This was one of the most if not the most powerful american car produced in 1982. I don't know why people say stupid comments about 80's cars having too low horsepower when they were fast enough for their time. This car in it's stock form could probably outrun most any other 82 anything. Trying to compare these to modern vettes is just stupid. It's like comparing this 82 to a 53 corvette.
It’s because early C3s and most C2s would leave it for dead. The EPA neutered everyone, but the Vette got the worst of it. So yeah, it deserves the derision it receives, but it’s not GMs fault.
Dad had an 82 collector edition, remember picking it up from the dealership with my mom, watching them pulling it off the showroom floor out the big glass doors us getting in it and driving it home we lived in Naperville at the time, I was 16 just got my license got a chance to drive it many time,s, never put not even a scratch on it never forget the day we picked it up on a Saturday morning fun times.😲😲😀😃🤩🤩...FWM....
I owned a 1969, always liked the body tweaks of early 80s. I own a 1990 ZR-1 now and it's still "King of the Hill", I like all gens of corvette, it's so cool to see these old commercials, I graduated in 1980, was driving a 68 firebird with a 468 BBC, 4 speed, tunnel ram with two 780 cfm Holley carbs. My son drives a C7. Z06, we are planning a cruise on the dragons tail soon. Nice work👍👍🏁🏁
That is just cool..Chevy really knew it was doing when it came to style. Those c3 vettes are still some of the best looking cars in the world. They can hold their own against any car, even the c7.
Conscious Robot , Holy fuck, do you feel the need to comment every time someone compliments this car? Then you get all logical and butthurt when people tell you they disagree
I've still got my '82.....what's stopping you? When you climb in, fire it up, put down the windows and crank up the Classic Rock....YOU GO BACK IN TIME!!! Yes.....really!! ;-)
How hilarious! The driver has on leather driving gloves and the speedometer only goes to 85 (he's actually doing 45 mph!) But, I've had mine since 1993, so what do I know.
i like how they talked about the cars and the engine functions. now adays you get a car commercial with a bunny, peanut, and rock and boom! the car shows up.
@@USCG.Brennan It was real life. At St Louis two guys one on each side spraying their half the car as it came down the line with the downdraft paint booth and water underneath pulling the paint down. They did it for decades seemingly with no ill effects. Good old lacquer.
@@thud9797 I still shoot lacquer sometimes and I know this would kill you before long. It's a chemical in the air you're breathing and it's DANGEROUS to inhale, especially 8 hours a day, 5 days a week....for YEARS. Sorry.....and no offense, but I'm in SERIOUS doubt over your reply.
New for 82! Cross-Fail Injection! It took a few years, but my old 350 in my '77 is getting an LS3. Now it will have the power this car should have had to begin with.
Now you're talking!! Too many dummys commenting here about these cars being slow when they FORGET about doing some engine swaps and mods to make them the SCREAMERS they were meant to be!!
Oh wow! Still offering 8 track players or cassette tape sound systems in '82 as options on the 'vette. Love the collectors edition that was available. A old friend of mine did own a '82 vette in 2 tone paint. For a 5.7 CFI the car got down the road quickly!
I had an 1981 Vette with a Manual 4 speed that was difficult getting in & out of but an absolute joy to drive. I loved that car. I saw some nymrod om youtube showing off his "1983"... He turned off the comments, Ha!
My dad had a ‘81 and I got to drive it the whole summer after graduating high school in ‘93. That was a fun summer, t-tops off cruising the main drag, driving to my summer job as a lifeguard. Definitely not the fastest, but t was beautiful, claret ( maroon) exterior with tan ( camel) interior.
Crazy to think when the c3 first came out, the Saturn V rocket was just taking its first test flights, the vietnam war was starting to heat up, big block engines were becoming more and more popular on the street, american society was undergoing a huge upheaval, and this car lasted until 1982. Whata generation
Thanks it is a very nice informative retrospective on the advent of fuel injection technology, more specifically, throttle body fuel injection, at a time when its utilization was still rare within General Motors. It is really cool to see the commercial’s graphic of a micro processor. Today I think we take for granted the use of microprocessors in cars. It certainly was something to herald back then. In its 1982 form, imagining driving of the lot in a computerized throttle body fuel injected
@BrotherHubbs Anyone who owns a 81 Corvette didn't buy them for just the speed. It's a classic design and a beautiful car. It may be under powered, but it's still a Vette. I own a 93 C4, but would also love to own a late model C3.
Neil Sahay My stepdad is selling his for $8000 - $12000 I'm not sure if it's a collectors edition though. It's silver, with red trim and a dark gray/blue on the bottom. The interior is red.
2:09 - In the middle of changing the front suspension bushings right now, so it is amazing how easy they make this part look. I was disappointed they cut before that smashed that spring down to put that lower control arm on. 2:26 - Most don't know they assembled those chassis upside down. This is why they went together well and you have such a problem doing things in your garage. 3:07 - Don't you love how they are spraying that urethane paint with no masks or respirators on? 4:42 - Chevy tried to pull off another Indy Pace Car craze where prices went nuts.
This is the Corvette for that part of the 1970s that was kinda the 1980s and that part of the 1980s that was kinda the 1970s. If an Eddie Money album were a car. Sensational!
the MOST BEAUTIFUL CORVETTE CHEVY HAS EVER MADE (LATE C-3). I loved my brand new '82. but, my '78,L-82,4speed, was faster.'82, was a GT. (COLLECTOR EDITION) much more luxurious.
I've got an '82 I'm restoring right now and I agree with you. My first C3 was a '68 427 4spd Roadster.....It was a "goer" but I don't think it had quite the same looks of the '82s, ;-)
I currently have 2 1982's and have owned a total of 3. Next to the 1969, they are my favorite year of Corvette. Yeah, the EPA sucked the life out of them, but it's still a Corvette!
after watching this commercial it does so many things for me, like buying a 82 vette, busting a move and putting leg warmers on .....what ????!!!!! well maybe not the leg warmers that for the hot ladies for the 80s
I've owned alot of Vettes over the years, but I think the last of the C-3s were the best looking. The fender flares and the mirrored T-Tops were great!
I owned a '68 427 4spd Roadster and now own an '82 T-Top. I think the '82 is the coolest body design with those rear and front wheel flares, the front cowl and that built in spoiler in the back. But hey....to each his own. ;-)
Did anyone else notice there are no Crossfire Injection badges on this Red "82" in most of this video as well as the 1980/81 style cross flags?? Also there is no Crossfire Injection badges in most shots.
The TBI cars and trucks of the 80s were incredibly reliable All the comments of junk ceasefire etc never had one or knew how to work on one. Love OBD1 cars easy to fix keep running and diagnose. Same as a carb and HEI just a lil smarter.
@me20003 This is from Corvette C3 Buyer's Guide" By Richard Price. Page 131 "Ever-increasing mechanical and electrical complexity owing not only to the plethora of emissions ruducing equipment found on 1982s and some earlyer C3s, but also to the steady addition of more and more features, makes 82's more prone to certain problems. These include sensor, solenoid, and valve failures:vacuum leaks; electrical shorts; and catalytic converter failure".
Beautiful turtle! Hell, even the Camaro was faster, but the Mustang was even faster. All 157 hp of that Mustang GT. I do think the C3 is beautiful, btw. I've always loved them!
@BrotherHubbs yea i got a 82 for my first car, it originally had injection problems you would have to spray starter fluid in it if you havnt started it in like a few days, there was old fluids blocking some of the fuel, it had been sitting a year before i got it. She is still in the shop getting new cross drilled rotors re wired and some horsepower increase seems like for ever til she gets out though its a great car im in love with it and i will live in it before i sell it
@me20003 Here is what Car and Driver said about the 82 corvette. "Even though the TBI V-8 and Turbo Hydra-Matic powertrain will pull you to a higher terminal speed . . . it takes so long to get there you'll need Nebraska". Cross-fire injection was designed to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. Despite the fact that it generated decent power and was reasonably reliable, the system found little favor with enthusiasts, because it could not be readly modified for better performance".Page 138
@BrotherHubbs Cool beans!!! Mine is white with red....and you'd be surprised how affordable they can be.....and the best part is you can get all kinds of replacement parts for them, some even NOS....I got very lucky with both the '95 and the L-82,but low-mileage jewels are still out there....I say keep yours and enjoy...their value will increase as time goes by....I know I'll keep mine!! All the best....
@Footballfathead8 I dont blame you bro for living in it before you sell it. I love all the 80's vettes. I just read in a book that there was alot more electrical problems shorts and catalic converter faliure on the 82s but as long as you have a total passion for the car i totally understand. The 80s vettes are gourgous. and you know what i live in my vette too before i see mine either!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHFadetoBlack..
@me20003 Here is another quote about the 82's crossfire on page 134 of the Corvette C3 68-82 Buyer's Guide by Richard Price. "The 1982 Corvette engine compartment was perhaps the most crowded and COMPLICATED in Corvette History. The cross-fire injection air cleaner and induction setup where used in 1982 models ONLY, making parts rather DIFFICULT to come by."
My dream car, collectors addition. I'd have to drop the hopeless engine and drop in a 500 hp crate motor though. Couldn't help notice the poor spray painters with no masks! I suppose back then no one really cared about worker's safety.
YOU GOT IT BRO.... MY FAVS TOO ARE 80 81 82 I OWN A 81 WORKING ON GETTING A NEW ENGINE CANT WAIT MUSTANGS ARE ALL OVER THE ROAD I LOVE WHEN THEY SEE ME IN MY 81 I KNOW THERE LOOKING AHAHAHAHAHHAH
Yes my 81 is red on red and i love it! I did like the two tone paint too as i know some do not like two tone. It is all a matter of what you like and dont like i guess. Gourgous automobile 80 to 82s are my favorite corvettes of all time. But i can't wait till the 2013 60th aniversary comes out. It is that one corvette in the movie Transformers 2 and is also called the 2009 concept corvette. Absoulutly a Drop Dead Gourgous Car!!
Why does it have to come down to a comparison. If we're all Chevy fans why can't we have our own opinions without getting harped at. In my opinion the 68-82 Vettes, 69 Camaros, 70s C10 Pickups, 2012 ZL1 and ZR1 Camaro and Vette are some of the most beautiful and era-defining vehicles ever
@VettemanLT5 I agree completly what you said about the 80 with the L-82 engine with more power. Maybe one day if i have enough money, I will get a 80 L-82! I myself own at the present time a 1981 Red with Red interior and i love it! I can stare at the car for hours it is so gourgous. They have bodies on them like a barbie doll! LOL
@BrotherHubbs I agree but I'll go even further.Try to find an '80 model with the L-82....more power than the Cross-Fire and a lot easier to service and maintain.I just found one with 12,000 miles...couldn't pass it up.Now that one keeps my '95 ZR-1 company at my storage.....the look from behind the wheel of the C3's with those fenders swooping like they do is priceless....of those 3 years, the 1980 is the one to get....all are great though.
Yes you are absoulty right. To me they are the best looking Corvettes ever made and i guurantee if you have a true passion for the 80 - 82 corvettes, you will not be dissapointed although i myself recomended you buy a 80 or 81 over the 82 as i read they can me alot more headaces as the electrical system and catlatic converter tend to go bad on the 82's plus the crossfire fuel ingection i herd can be a real headace too. Buy a 80 or a 81 ( even better year i feel) if you want less problems etc..
Your right about the bigger engines and horspower but if GM did not do what they did, the car whould never have been made. The car is powerful enough for me! : )
