You have to realize that even though they hadn't played in the Finals since then, the rivalry was already building back up. Magic and Bird played against each other in college then entered the league on those two teams as the next biggest NBA superstars. Lakers won in 80, Celtics won in 81, and there was constant talk about which player and team was better. It didn't come to a head until the mid-80s when they fought in the Finals, but the build up was already there.

You would think this game was played in the 1950s the way this video looks

Ah yes, the ghosts of Celtics past......the Sixers buried those ghosts in 1982, and the Lakers finally sent them to hell in 1985!

"Beat LA" not sure how Celtic fans hated the Lakers at that time, they hadn't met in the Finals until 2 years later. And not since 1969.
