Wow, seeing twin sticks comment on here, i feel like i was cought cheating ! "Its ok honey, first time looking at another, its not like ive been sneaking away... little by little!
My dad always had a Peterbuilt, this brings back alot of memories. Glad this old girl started right up. Gave me goosebumps when she started right up. Thanks for sharing.
Its called a " Parallel Switch", Cummins used them also, but the switches purpose is to cut the voltage from 24 volt at start to 12 volts while running so the truck had lights, radio, and such
HOT DAMN!!! Awsome the way that Cat fired up! Who ever left that truck to rot should be ashamed of themselves. Smh. Lookin foward to seeing it rebuilt.
Yes sir I saw the same thing it's an A model I don't think this dude knows a hell of a lot and I don't believe it was the first start in 10 years either
you catch the air built up on the secondary tank when he showed inside the cab...that wasn't a first start no way .... Why the hell wouldn't you have the hood open and something ready to snuff it if she started to run away??
that switch is a series parallel switch... we had one in a 68 Freightliner cabover with a Cummins , Kenworth and Pete both used them, the entire electrical system is 12 volt, except for the starter and that switch connects the batteries into 24v for the starter only.... you can still buy them if you need one.... last one I bought was about 5 years ago from Kenworth
Nice old truck, just where in Oklahoma are you from? I'm in Broken Arrow, Ok. I have an 1984 Exhd Pete. that I'm fixing to redo. Good luck on your build.
that old motor sounds good you can tell it's got a lot of compression by how quickly it fired off I got to say that somebody must have overhauled that motor not too long before they park the truck
Noway that started first time over, drove most of my 74 years across Country and never had one start first time after even sitting a few days whether a Cat, Cummings, Detroit, Mack or what ever.
That’s nice. Every truckers dream. But what all did u do to start other then batteries ? New fuel filter ? Fresh fuel in tanks ? I look forward to this build. Thanks for sharing.
B model cat on right side of steering column you have a Johnson bar for trailer breaks the other is lever for brake saver which is a oil restarted. They work great as long as the diaphragm is good
LOL "I'm happy with it.... bought it and it's been sitting for years." LOL I know u meant it's been sitting and you bought it but the way you said that made me want to say, if you like stuff sitting for years buy GMs LOL. Sounded good when u started it up, good ol CATs shame they don't make em like they use to.
If what you say is true. . Starting after 10 years. On video. That is awesome. Did you drain the tanks.. change oil. . Ect.. ? Anyway. . I'm glad you are giving that truck a new life.
For it sitting for 7-10yrs the rubber looks good the rust nowhere near where it should be and looks pretty clean for sitting outside that long 7-10yrs lol
I’m gonna call bull shit on the first start in ten years. Probably would of cranked for a minute or two and a couple shots of either and then when it did come to life it would have smoked and puked for a while. But hey, I’m not judging you. If you can save her from the debts of hell, do it. Looking forward to seeing more on the truck
I wouldn't go in that truck with a hazmat suit. That did not sit for 10 years and fire right up. There's no way. And for the rats eating the wiring. There's no way a rat would unscrew the terminal secret to unconnected that trigger wire. It would have been more plausible if the wire was shredded or ripped apart and not with a clean ring terminal at the end.
Cool it’s running but as others have said.. that wasn’t the first run.. thing is.. nobody is going to buy a truck that’s sat for 10yrs without it running first.. and the fact u had rubber waiting to go on it.. this was basically a start n show vid..
First start in 10yrs. Crap. You would have spent minutes turning over the engine waiting for the fuel to get through to the injectors before finally firing up.
The model isn't determined by the color. Older Kenworths and Pete's had white engines, Internationals were red, Ford's had blue. The truck manufacturer repainted them . like I said, look at the injection pump. The B motors had the pump tucked right up to the front cover, the A models had a shaft running from the front cover to the pump.
