I am Egyptian and I was a fan of Italy from the 1978 World Cup, and Italy ranked fourth. In the European Championship in 1980, Italy ranked fourth, and in the 1982 World Cup, perhaps I was the only one in Egypt who supported Italy and all of Egypt supported Brazil. Italy's performance in the groups was very bad, and its level began to rise in the following rounds, and I was the happiest one when Italy won the World Cup. It was the most beautiful World Cup in history. The most beautiful thing is that you believe in the generation of players and continue to encourage it and in the end achieve the greatest heroism. You feel that you had a foresight in this team or this group of players in which there is something different, even though I was young at that time

i have to say after watching several matches from the past, 1974-2020, in don't know why they tell this story's about Italian football is only catenacchio and counterattack! i think it's a stupid myth, i saw some games like euro 2000 against Netherlands, but they played with 10 man in a Euro semifinal in Amsterdam. i mean 82, 88,90,94, 98,2000, 06, all great teams with normal games, i saw only a few matches in which they suffered, but then every other team plays like Italy, more in defense. hats off, Italy is for me one of the biggest Team like Brasil, Germany! btw, today most videos are about "the art of defense", most teams adopted a way to play more like the Italian, strong defense and CM! As an Italian American and stationed in Vicenza during this time I joined the Azzuri bandwagon. I followed every game and my excitement grew with every goal scored by Paolo Rossi. The country exploded after beating Germany. I joined the the country wide party of course.

That's the WC of my parents generation. I celebrated the 2006 and Euro 2020. I always heard about this legendary Italian team 1982,so I wachted all the games,and it gave me more emotions than 2006 and 2020(21).
It is the same for me. I experienced 2006 and 2021 live, both provided extraordinary moments. But there is just something special about the 1982 team, I don't know if it's the sheer quality of the players across the pitch, the chemistry between them, the captainship of Zoff or the level of the opponents they beat... And the fact that they win all their games from the second round in 90 minutes, scoring a fair number of goals. Whereas 2006 and 2021 had more than their fair share of extra time and penalties. So globally I relate a lot more to the team of 1982.

I was 24 when I watched this World Cup , it feels like yesterday ,what a brilliant World Cup ITALY started slow but in the second round they got it together beating the best teams in the world fantastic .

Even if it was, you have to convert a penalty first. The fact is that Italy has taught Brazil a lesson in terms of tactics, strategy and determination and if you look at the other missed chances by Rossi, Conti and Graziani, as well as the disallowed goal by Antognoni, Brazil was lucky not to have lost even higher.
As it turned out there was very little to beat in Spain. All the major countries suffered with injuries or other problems and Brazil proved to have, not a team, but only a brilliant midfield. Spain and teams that had looked good in qualifying including the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Peru and West Germany were extremely disappointing. Ozil being a starter on that team was a huge mystery, he was making it on reputation only. Whereas 1974 we're talking about the best German football had to offer at the time, a combination of Bayern + Monchengladbach who were extremely successful teams. Germany 1990 had incredible players and no weaknesses either.

Can you name the only player in World cup history who played in the final, but never touched the ball with his feet? It happened in 1982, when Franco Causio was brought in, on the 87-th minute. In the remaining 3 minutes he was desperate to touch the ball, but was not lucky. The only time he touched the ball was when he took a throw in with his hands!

So, after reading your comment, I tried to find the full match: Causio replaces Alsandro Altobelli and at one point when an Italian player touches the ball, the commentator says Causio, but since I don't understand the language and the frame is not close, I don't know whether it was Causio or not (you might be right). Then a minute later, Gabriel Orialli is going to throw in the ball, and Causio goes to him and takes the ball and does the throw in himself, and that was all his contribution to the game.

Che nostalgia! In quell'estate in mi avviavo al quattordicesimo compleanno e seguivo più i calciatori che non il calcio. Ricordo che durante la partita contro il Camerun, al gol di Graziani sono corsa in stalla dove mio padre stava mungendo le vacche:"Papà, papà, ha segnato Graziani!" I don't believe there's been a better WC tournament than this one. It had everything. The best games ever (Brazil vs Italy was the best ever game in my opinion) and I say that as Englishman - it was hard for us as we didn't lose a game but still went out despite beating semi finalists France convincingly 3 -1.
I was 4 and a half years old and we were visiting family in Italy when they won this world cup. It was one of my first memories! I still remember seeing all the flags from the parade they had going down Via Montagnola in Acri, CS!

I havent lived enough to be able to watch the all tournament but from the highlitghts of this video i have noticed that compared to today's flotball, it seems much less tactical than today. I reckon today is much more tactical and structural and the players train with much more techniques and intense than it used to be, perhaps im wrong.
