First real big bike I ever rode. I was 17 and a friend and his brother both got one of these. I got on and putted around their little wooded track. I grabbed a bit too much throttle, disappeared into a gully and came out of it on the back wheel. I was frozen in fear and wheelie mode for the last 25 yds of the straight away. Everyone cheered, I was a stud, but really I was terrified and lucky.
Had that exact bike. Starting it was a nightmare. Once running it flew, lots of fun. No one wanted to be behind me because it roost the hell out of them. Great old bike. Great memories.
i have an it 490 .1984.never been stored outside.i run it rich.starts on two kicks.one on choke.second no choke.a mellow big bore.its not an mx.its a trail bike.itll go miles and miles and more miles.reliably.has never ever let me down.ever.very good machine and very valuable in the uk.
82 IT465 J..... Not 83... 83 was an IT490. Mines nicer, all original, 422 documented miles supposedly but it’s mint, a All OEM stock except new DG pipe, Oring chain, tubes and IRC tires. My tank isn’t discolored and my rear wheel isn’t crunched. Btw, rear wheel is a dented 17”, not an 18” as claimed. Oh and there are repo rear tail lens so not impossible to find.
@@deborahchesser7375 sounds stupid but the 465 felt like it had more torque then the 490 but not as fast or top end wise the 400 wasnt fast it was just a goat
Not really a YZ with lights… IT is 25lbs heavier, lower compression, heavier flywheel, 10-12 less hp in factory trim, stupid 17” rear wheel vs Yz 18”, restrictive pipe and even worse spark arrestor, larger fuel tank, side stand, tool bag, rear frame hoop, wide ratio 5 speed tranny vs Yz close ratio 4 speed. 82 It was 465 cc vs yz 490cc. IT build for woods (IT=international trials which is called enduro now) / YZ built for motoX. And as mentioned, IT has front and rear lights driven by a lighting coil in the US. Other countries got the full street legal version with horn, turn signals, etc.
I had a white 465 it, take off in 3rd and rooster tail 20 feet high...I tried a 450 4 stoke, not even close to the throttle control to this bike. having the 465, no bike really scares me with to much power so far
It's not uncommon to find a nice light use age IT 465/490.....they were a whole lot of motorcycle in their day and the happy new owner often hurt himself badly on the initial ride....then put away that evil machine while the broken bones healed.
Nice bike. I had an '83 TT600 that I think about a lot. I invented the 'no handed lander' and the 'superman' on that bike. I guess I'm the true father of FMX. haha
Eagle eye spotting. Thanks for the direction.. Also surprised the headlight bulb wasn't replaced. I presume any further repairs the profit will be minimal. Still, a decent bike.
What you forgot to mention was the dent in the rear rim on the left side.. I am the IT 175 Love that bike and then they hide the IT 400 which was a beast ended up losing it in a silted crick sunk little bottom
I've got one of these in original condition I've been trying to sell for 3 years at $1600. 82 465 Nobody wants them... dirtbikers want new stuff, they are a shallow, fickle bunch of guys.. Maybe I'll just hang onto it.
I grew up on IT 465s have had 4 in lifetime and I love the big bore 2 stroke and no one can keep up with me on a 465J ran everything out there back then even was throwing huge rocks at a tt600 I wont ride anything but the 465 especially the J model bought new in 1982 love to have yours but there not worth 1600 get em around here once and a while for 6-800 had to sell my 3 because of child support and I wish still had at least one of them and parts are perty much non existant anymore had that problem back in 92-95 nothing like full throttle on the energy induction just like a turbo/blower combined, never have enough straightaway
you're right, Mr. Wolf... :( sad but true. but it's like with many things in life, so you must keep it and enjoy it, it's a vintage ! maybe ride it in those veteran races you've there . i got a cr500 '99 , and i love it, and also wish i could ride a bike like yours ! it's an experience !
My dad always had a yamaha DT50 and a honda mtx but my dad his honda got took away by the police but he had a honda cr500 cr250 and a suzuki rm500 and my uncle has a kawasaki kdx 250 with license

Had this exact bike, bought for $850..hated it, horrible layout..i'll take a '85cr500 anyday over this thing..i did port it & was able to take off in 5th on a gravel road> Was a nice 150ft long roost I must say!
