Forward Controls Modification Right, so i installed them at 09:32, and in hindsight. I do wish I would've gone into more detail about it. But it wasn't until I'd had the bike a minute to actually do the build and kind of only did before and afters. So it doesn't show many of the challenges and frustrations that came with it. Nevertheless, the forward controls kit came from a company called TC bros. Link to the kit at the bottom of the reply. Now, before installing them there are a couple things I'd like you to know. Probly the most important thing first is to make sure you use lock nuts and Loctite on these, a brake failure isn't something I'd ever want to happen twice. Especially since I still to this day haven't gotten the front brakes working. The next one is its not a totally plug and play kit, and does require some fitment and basic modifications. The kit comes with instructions on how to do so. But it will require 2 all or partial threaded dowel rods, and 4 ball joints. And the rear linkages are made using the original brake and shifter pedals that were cut and drilled to fit the ball joints. Tc bros does tell you what size and type to order. But if you're like me and didn't read the fine print on the kit, I didn't know it wasn't complete until the package arrived. So being impatient, I ended up getting the rods (3/8 inch 16 tpi all thread) from lowes that I cut to length, and the ball joints from tractor supply, I had to drill those out to 3/8in, and tap them to 16TPI, after this you may need to use a large drill bit on the back of the brake pedal after cutting it to length in order to get the ball joint to show through enough to put a nut on. But after that you should be good to go. If you have any more question let me know and I'll see what I can do. And if you'd like you can follow me @circumpunk.t on Instagram and you can dm me there and I'll follow your build if you post about it. Thank you P.S. I forgot to mention that if you remove the original foot pegs. Cut them off at the base and use it as a spacer for the motor mount bolt. www.tcbroschoppers.com/products/tc-bros-yamaha-maxim-xj650-forward-controls-kit

Thank you, I knee putting it together would take some time, but I never got to a point where I could say it was done. And at this point I've accepted it will always need something so I went ahead. Thank you for your support.

Hey I noticed you replaced the stock rear brake pedal and the shifters for the transmission. You didn’t really show that in the time-lapse but do you think you could share the link of the parts you used for the transmission shifter and rear brake pedal? Thank you!

Thank you I appreciate that. This was my first ever build, so of course some rough edges are expected. I went into it trying to combine the cleanliness of a cafe, the seating position of a chopper, all wrapped up in a bobber. I wanted to maintain its vintage attitude, while also adding some modern tech. But making sure not to lose the performance intention of the sport bike engine.

Hey love the build and had a question. Where did you move the fuse box to after doing the air box delete?
@joshstroud1388
@joshstroud1388 2 года назад
Hey I apologize for not getting back to you, I must have missed the notification. So originally at 05:35 it was just left in front of the battery. However once it was actually bobbed, I put it sticking out of the bottom of those two plates 13:55 also shown at 14:45, that held the ignitor, excess wiring, and regulator. The ignitor was between those plates. However this didn't work for long since it was causing something to short from being sandwiched together so much. So eventually after untangling some of the harness and inspecting for shorts, the fuse box went between the top and bottom seat plates, and the ignitor, and regulator bolted underneath. However this also didn't stay that way for long since again the wiring was sandwiched, that fuse box failed, which is not uncommon on these bikes. So I picked one up off the shelf at autozone, and carefully moved all of the I think 8 wires over to the new one using quick disconnects. It is now mounted to the rear fender.

I got them from tc bros but I did a previous comment about these. If you check the comment directly below you you'll find all the details I can give here on ordering and installing. However if you have any question during the installation please feel free to ask, I'd bee glad to gelp if I can!

Hey I am also about to put those k&n filters on my xj650. What was the process like jetting/tuning the carbs after?
@joshstroud1388
@joshstroud1388 2 года назад
Yes I just put them on and ran with it myself until I discovered and could afford murrays carbs. However, if you do and you want to keep the originals, you'll probably want to go up a jet size or 2 to compensate for the extra air. Tbh I bout into the extra air means more horse power bit when I first started learning. But the air box is truly the best thing for the originals unless they are rejected. Murray's Carbs though, gave it alot more torque, especially at the low end.
@inder605
@inder605 2 года назад
@@joshstroud1388 cool thank you so much. I think I might get the Murray’s carbs.Did you use the air filter pods that came with the Murray’s or use the K&N ones?
@joshstroud1388
@joshstroud1388 2 года назад
@@inder605 yes and yes, after close inspection murrays uses a debranded k&n, and they send them with the kit, so if you buy those first you will have a lifetime supply of air filters.

As a side note, I'm also using a digital technique cdi unit from regulatorrectifier.com that practically made it run like a modern engine. I couldn't have been more impressed. It come as a bonus that it has a 3 year warranty.

Where did you find your throttle and clutch cables n brake line for those bars
@joshstroud1388
@joshstroud1388 Год назад
So I never got my front brakes working, therefore it doesn't have a brake line yet. However after several attempts at making my own cables, even trying to retrofit a harley cable to it once, and limping the bike back without either a throttle or a clutch. I found a company called motion pro cables, they made me some really good ones and I bought 2 of each. Haven't had any issues since. Mine has 14 in apes, and I had mine made to be: Clutch cable 64" Throttle cable 54"

Sinceramente amigo, eso es algo que no tengo idea de cómo hacer, nunca he intentado frenar a uno. Ojalá pudiera ayudar pero lo único que puedo sugerir es una motocicleta más pequeña.
