The 1980s Electra only came with a chime for two years from 1983-84 before switching back to a scary buzzer from 1985-90 with no chime available at all.
two mechanics ive had have said that the olds 307 belt/pulley set up is designed to squeal. .they never spoke highly of the set up...mine starts fairly well after sitting, with some pumpage...doesn't really ever stall...durable, reliable engine/cars...I take it here there and everywhere without worry. so many newer cars break down all around me, this one keeps going and going ...1987 caprice classic with the olds engine...nearly 300 000 kms.bullet... proof...i will miss this car when it is gone..i wish it were an older model with better body metal than from this era.
I owned three of these, two V6 LeSabres & one V8 Park Ave. Starting procedure cold is - Key ON, Fully depress gas once & release. Crank a few times, if no start repeat gas pedal depress & crank again. If still no start after a few turns apply light throttle. Mine almost always started after the first or second pedal press.
That's the alternator belt that's squealing, that's likely why the lights aren't as bright as they should be...and that red light in the indicator panel, is it the VOLTS light? If so, there's your problem...
I think it was more of a diffuser than anything. maybe some extra safety? Would think that it would been more useful at the far end of the door though so traffic could see it easier
Carbeuraterated cars were pieces of shit. They only worked well when they were finely tuned. It's amazing people drove these everyday and actually made it to work on time!
Carbureted vehicles were actually very reliable. They were purely mechanical and the only reason they didn't work properly was due to user error. It only takes fuel, air, and spark to successfully run a motor. I daily drive a 33 year old carbureted vehicle and it starts every morning without fail, and takes me wherever I need to go.
Billy Litz quite opposite. no pumping and will crank till battery is dead. think the fuel pump or fuel filter's check valve is not working and it drains back to the tank. even in the morning I gotta give it a couple pumps when daily driving it. this morning was 10 below zero and i had to start it 3 times to keep it running. I need to get the carb done again..
