The 30 30 Campaign was created in 2013 to celebrate AIDS Vancouver's 30th anniversary. The campaign pieces together the dynamic history of HIV in Vancouver, told by and for those who were there.
AIDS Vancouver's first community forum brought Paul Popham of the Gay Men's Health Crisis in NYC and was attended by many including Gaetan Dugas.
Gaetan Dugas was erroneously described as 'patient zero', the first person to bring HIV to North America, for many years. The term 'patient zero' is an example of stigmatizing language that does not support our communities. This false and stigmatizing framing of Gaetan's life has been shown to be false many times. This CBC story explains the research that cleared Gaetan: www.cbc.ca/player/play/1.3830714.
