Omg so nice. Had 1983. Drove to British Columbia 3 days 200 dollars gas 1993 it was. 1 cub of oil. Im in Ontario. Lots radio stations. Strong. U in big city lights
I had the same year but black with grey stripes, I trade it for a Celica GTS with the same 22R engine. Now i'm on my second Tundra, the first sold with 400,000 miles for $10,000 dollars, it was the regular cab, sports red package with the 5.7 liter, 0-60 in 4.69 seconds. Toyota builds the very best!
Nice pickup. By the way it's not a Tacoma, tacomas didn't come out until 1996. It's called a pickup in North America but in other countries they're called Hilux.
In Southern California we called these “Pup’s”. My friends had a couple (the “Deluxe” version, not the loaded Sr5 like you have here. Yours is the most desirable model with the 5speed, and the tricked out dash & interior). I had a 85 4Runner, 22RE motor, EFI, 5speed and solid axles. We were stationed in San Diego (Navy) and surfing safaris to Ensenada and Baja was our escape. I loved my Runner but my shipmates pre-runner Pup’s were super fun on the trail. Congrats on preserving this great machine! Took me right back to the early 80’s, a time before trucks grew into behemoth’s on steroids and no direct steering or road feel anymore. If I had the cash I would pay the premium to buy a Pup. I have a 4th gen 4Runner Sport (nicely modded) but it’s automatic of course and IFS. The shit eating grin alone every time I started up that 83 is worth the cost. Oh yeah, and 79-84 are EMP apocalypse proof. 😆 🤘
Just broken in. My first Yota was a red 83 4 x 4. In the midwest. It ran until it rusted to the point where it wasn't safe to drive. The only mechanical problem I ever had was a gas filter and I had to replace the timing chain (yes, chain), which I did myself. I've been running Toyotas since. Phenomenal truck. My current Taco has about 280K and going strong.
Glad you kept yours and didn’t make the mistake so many of us did selling ours. Always regretted that...BUT...I got out of the Navy and was leaving California to return to Wisconsin. I knew my 85 would just disintegrate up here so I sold her. It’s really too bad that Toyota used such poor steel for these early trucks. In every other way they were simply great great little trucks!
