I worked at Worthington Ford in1980, as a Security guard, and met Cal twice. He used to come in driving a 5 or 6 year old car, always smiling. I sure miss him.

@Sarasdad91

@@notoriousbastards11 It's true. He would drive his used cars because he owned them. But from what I remember, he would never take a car off the line at the main lot, he had an auxiliary lot over by the airport and he would take cars from there to drive. He did a lot of filming over there on that lot as well you can see the airport towers in the background.

@@jaminova_1969Cal was into R&B, he really was. I forget the year, but I remember this: I was at a WAR concert at the Greek Theater (Hollywood), and the band members are out there warming up individually, just a racket of everybody playing their instrument. All of a sudden, one of the guys starts playing the Go See Cal jingle on his guitar, just a few notes. The audience chuckles. Then a couple more play it and the next thing you know, they’re kind of jamming it! The audience loves it, and then one of the players points to the front row and says, “Good to see you, Cal.” Sure enough, it’s Cal (or his double), sitting in the front row. I might have been a marketing gimmick, but he was dressed down, not wearing his trademark cowboy hat or coat, so not really looking like he was trying to get noticed. Best of all, the dude stayed for the whole show. If it WAS a marketing ploy, I’m glad he was interested in getting business from that demographic. RIP Cal (and Spot, too!).

Most people don't know Cal Worthington was a pilot in WW2 29 missions over Germany in a B-17. He also trained pilots and many of those pilots he trained became the first astronauts for NASA. He continued his love for aviation and kept on flying he never really had any interest in cars he just wanted to fly so he got into the car business because he knew how expensive aviation was. There is a interview where he talks about this on RU-vid not sure where I saw it once.
