Christmas in Kaiserslautern, Germany 1984. Special thanks to Mom and Dad for saving these memories to tape and letting me share them with all of you who remember this time in Germany. You can see it starting to snow, filmed at the same time. 1984 in KTown.

What a time capsule and high valuable footage! I'm impressed as a local citizen, born a long time after the date of this footage, how things have changed from time to time. Thank you for this piece of history of my hometown!

What a spectacular view of everyday life in 1984 Kaiserslautern! Its amazing how something so ordinary, like filming a trip to Micky D's, can become an amazing piece many many years later. I was there in 1991, shorty AFTER the wall came down.

Thank you for sharing this video. I lived in downtown Kaiserslautern near the Mainzer Tor as a single Airman from January 1984 until I moved into base housing on Ramstein in 1988 after marrying a local German Girl. So, this video really brought back some great memories. Thanks again for sharing. Its just as I remember it.

Omg that’s when I lived there! My dad was named Stg Greg Fisher - We lived at 2722 vogelweh dr! Right there where the two guards sat around the block from that officers club... have no clue how I remember that from 1984!😋 I went to Kaiserslautern Elementary. And I use to love going to the McDonalds in town! They use to have green apple soda and green milkshakes. Fget what flavor but the states never carried those flavors. Man I remember the soft pretzels 🥨 and the brochen with jelly and butter. Miss this place soooo much🙉 wow omg I just heard u say Vogelweh!!! Omg That was my street! This was soooooo dam amazing to see! Speechless!!!!!!! NASTALGIA THANK YOUUUU😩😩🙏🙏😋💕✨

Hey all. Some utterly awesome and deeply sentimental commentary here. Was in D-Land 3 years (80-83) and this vid of K-town brought back a barrel of joyous memories, for me, too. Duty station (North Point) suuuuucked, but all else was good. Anyone else remembering you'd better study hard, to pass the German DL exam? LOL. Life without a POV license in the hinterlands, could get dull quick! Special thanks to the poster of this marvelous video. Peace to all.

thank you so much for this video! the only one made during that decade at/about KTown I could find so far! I am a german citizen, but my german mom married an american officer when I was 18. In 1984 I was 21 years old, driving through sembach housing area, vogelweh, ramstein and Kaiserslautern with my american buddies in an old ford maverick grabber. this video brings back fond memories of an amazing time and decade of my life. Thanks a lot for uploading!

Interesting, was with the 533MP Co. 65-66 and barracks were at the end of Vogelweg at that time, but patrolled Landstule and Ramstein area. Had a fantastic time in and around K-town along with traveling all around Europe for 1 1/2 years. Just a fact, the 65 Mustang was for sale at the PX for $1999.

The MCD is closed down now, at 7:31 is now the main entrance of the hospital, at 8:41 Karstadt has closed down a few years ago and years before that they closed down the theater(which is now at another place) and now there is a big shopping Mall, so many things have changed, you wouldnt recognise it anymore

I drove B270 for 4 years starting in 1973 to 1977 when I was stationed at a remote site in Clausen just north of Pirmasens. Vogelweh and Kleber got all the first run US movies long before they made their way to Pirmasens. My favorite restaurant in Germany was Dino's Pizzeria in Hohenecken. The first night 4 of us walked in there for a pizza there were 8 tables. When I returned in 1983 the restaurant had two floors with a large dining room for large parties on the second floor. This video truly brought back a lot of memories even though I never visited the McDonalds in Kaiserslautern. Thanks D Evans for the trip down memory lane.

Lots of things have changed over here. All American housing areas are fenced in now, no more free drive through from the backroad to B40. Is it better now? I don´t think so. Everything is more isolated and it is getting harder to get german friends visiting. No more germans coming to the basement sales or getting a icecrem at the guest house. To bad the good old time is gone.
@davidd.daigle3849
@davidd.daigle3849 7 лет назад
Wow , I used to live in the end of the 1100 block that was nearest to the road exiting housing and went under a train -trestle .. From there , you took a left & that brought you to downtown K-town in the vicinity of the bahnhoff .... That's the road you're talking about , right ? Closed off , you say ? No more drink or bread trucks visiting housing ?
@compassdetectors
@compassdetectors 7 лет назад
Yes, everything is fenced in now and there is the gate closed. Sometime, if there is construction on the other side, they open it up for a little while. Most of the big buildings have been brought down and small single family houses where build in there. Look at google earth. It might be in there already.

The MacDonalds in K-town was opened by a Colonel who was an Oral Surgeon at Ramstein Air Base. He removed my wisdom teeth in 1974 I believe. The guy was a real butcher! He really found his calling, opening the Mickey D's in K-town! We returned to the U.S. in 1978 and have never been back although we have wanted to many time. The weird part about this video is that I don't recognize anything on that drive into town.

Town FRANKENSTEIN was the town after Hochspeyer. Daughter born Landstuhl Military hospital. Shopped at Commissary in Vogelweh - also PX and went few time to Ramstein Air Force base. Bought beer steins - Cuckoo clocks- Got almost 4 German marcs to the U.S. Dollar. Lived in K-Town apartment top 3rd floor - very small apartment American Army couple on 2nd floor and another Army couple across the street - all German landlords. 18 months over there was long enough - hardly any warm weather there and very hard to find clothing that was not super expensive - PX hardly had any clothes for sale - was awful. Had a Peugeot to drive around and went to one Christmas party at the Officers club. Klaber Kaisern had a movie theater so that was good. WOW, long time ago
