I swear Nell Carter was such an incredibly gifted singer and dancer. It didn't matter that she was thicker, she could move with the best of them. Hard to believe she's been gone for 20 years now. RIP Nell.
It's great to finally see a clear version of Nell's number at the end of this. One thing I noticed is when Nell calls the cast of Cheers to stand, Kelsey Grammer is among them. That was his first season playing Dr. Frasier Crane.
42:58 mark has 3 stars of the TV series Knight rider: William Daniels, David Hasselhoff, and the late great Edward Mullhare all together on the same stage. It's very rare to see David Hasslehoff and William Daniels together who played the voice of kitt.
Happy 40th anniversary to the 1984 NBC special, _NBC All-Star Hour._ Happy 40th anniversary to the TV shows that were on NBC for the 1984-1985 TV season: _The Cosby Show, Night Court, Miami Vice, Riptide, Punky Brewster, Hunter,_ among others.
Amazing performances by Alfonso Ribeiro, Phylicia Rashad, and especially Nell Carter! I love how during the NBC women tribute, they showed action shots of Jane Badler, including the infamous eating the rodent on V!!
Thank you for uploading a clear copy. I have been looking forward to finding this for a long time. It's tacky, shameless, gaudy, over the top self promotion at it's finest. Love it!
They rolled out some amazing series in 84 which carried NBC for a long time and shows like Partners in Crime fell by the wayside quickly even after a hard push by Tartikoff! I was pretty disappointed with V the series after how good both mini series were but of course my 11 year old self watched every episode faithfully until it was cancelled!
Here in Australia, Channel Seven used the same network jingle to the NBC one - "Seven Hey! Let's All Be There". We're often not very good at coming up with original stuff down here...
To call Nell Carter talented would be an understatement. This performance should've won her an Emmy for Best Individual Performance in a Variety Special. The same award Whitney Houston won for her 1986 Grammy performance. This performance outshines anything that Whitney's formidable vocals could flashlight. Nell gives it all combining outstanding, pitch perfect & pristine vocals, high energy choreo all the while look glamorous and classy. Wow! Simply wow.
I know William Daniels never actually got to make any on screen cameos in Knight Rider, but has he ever got to ride in a KITT car? Either a TV used KITT car or a KITT replica?
Another part to my dream of the singer Crystal Gayle was I won every award show in the 70s and 80s shows on NBC Part of that dream was that Crystal sang every TV theme song for our shows from 1971 up to 1990 I won best producer director and star Ms. Crystal Gayle was with me I won every award there was
45:42 People forget Erin Gray was on TV for YEARS after Buck Rogers. Six years of SIlver Spoons. But I asked her at a con what autograph people chase her down on the sidewalk for and she says it's always Buck Rogers. I believe the difference was in syndication and endless reruns. Sci Fi channel put Buck in Prime Time in the 90s for god sake.
I love the women of NBC tribute with Telma Hopkins, Tina Yothers, Kim Fields, Phylicia Rashad and Stepfanie Kramer. It's amazing. And BTW, I came here for Fred Dryer, Stepfanie Kramer, Kim Fields, Tina Yothers, Kari Michaelsen and Soleil Moon Frye.
What is Nell singing at the end when it sounds like "or did you ever call your friend up (?????)) just to say he's gonna hit a home run soon". It sounds like "In the 7th" (like 7th inning) or "On the sabbath"...
What a different era ! i was just 14yrs old and saw all of this through the rose colored lens of youth ...now looking back at 53yrs old other then the nostalgia and the actors that i still really like (living or gone) its doesn't hold up entertainment wise..its almost like pro wrestling with the actors kinda still half character ..the obvious canned laughter and applause in side a big studio using a award show type format ..oh yeah and the PURE CHEESE lol ..but that was how they sold network tv back then .(with just 3 networks)...it seems since reality shows became the norm people just would never go for this kind format today ..not to mention tv now (like all other media) has become so corporately BLAND and politically correct (and socially PREACHY) ..thats the one thing i did enjoy about re watching this its ALL about the business nothing about anybody's agenda or social platform .....a special like this could never get aired now without many changes .
As great as the 80s were, we forget how many of those series were extinct and buried only a few years later. The 80s weren't consistent, they were just QUALITY.
A few of those new 84 shows would do pretty good (Vice , Hunter ) and one would become iconic (Cosby Show) V though i LOVED it as teen ..not so much ....just one kinda crappy season ,however, the the two miniseries that proceeded (especially the first 2 part one) still hold up pretty good once you get past dated way 80s tv was produced, written and acted watching in from 21st century perspective )
Pretty sure Micheal Ironside was out of there once he did the stage cast call thing ..lol...i heard him say in a interview stuff like that is not a part of the acting business he enjoys at all ...pretty sure there more then few that dont enjoy that part
Another part to my dream of the singer Crystal Gayle was I won at the 1981 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 90 TV emmys for Best producer Director and star of 2 American People UnderCover 1981 to 1990 Crystal Gayle was there with me in that part of my dream of Crystal was she sang all the TV theme songs to my NBC 70s and 80s shows I said to Crystal Gayle please sing more themes for my shows on the National Broadcasting Company I,ll back you up with everybody Crystal I give you credit she kissed me I said that,s my girl
I miss this looking at the stars wondering what they are like in real life nothing like today these are the stars I grew up seeing on tv so classy elegant true legends
80's was so cool! It was a time of some great shows something good on every night. 🌙 Saturday Morning Cartoons. They don't make shows like these anymore. TV ain't what it used to be. Great video games & the latest electronics. The arrival of the Boom Box. Arrival of the Video Rental. Be kind rewind $1 everyday your late a $1 if you didn't rewind! I loved TV back then!
