This was a tremendous effort by a Giants defense that was getting better and better. It was obvious that Belichick's game plan was to make Jeff Kemp beat them by throwing the ball.
Terry Kinard saved the Giants on this day. Couple of one on one tackles on Dickerson that would have been big gains/TD's. Great game, thanks for posting!
I was at this game and I wish i could say I remembered a dam thing about this game. I remember taking my cousin and I remember sitting in the end zone in the sun. Other then knowing the Rams lost ( as usual) it was just another sunny day in LA .
Madden says as much at that point lol. In the regular season meeting when LA beat the Giants at home they ran that very play and Crutchfield scored. I think it's safe to say Belichick remembered that and was waiting.
many great linebacker groups -- 70s steelers, recent niners, and yes saints, but not only this particular quartet -- which is THE best in nfl history, banks, reasons, carson and taylor -- but over the entire history of the franchise, the giants have the best overall collection of linebackers in nfl history -- check not only the famous names but other outstanding LBs such as andy headen, byron hunt, johnie cooks, pepper johnson, steve deossie etc etc
This game was effected by referees. Early the holding calls were phantom calls against the Rams especially the one on harrah. It slowed the Rams rhythm.
The highlights of this game was the first 'American football' I ever saw in the UK. Not knowing the score and supporting the underdog, I have been a Giants fan ever since.
Dickerson the best back in Football, Rams have goal to to go at the 3, Madden says "just give the Ball to Dickerson every time the rest of the game", Robinson decides to give the ball to crutchfield for a loss and then ends of throwing on 3rd, nothing there, ends up with just a field goal, that's your ball game, stupid play calling
I love the Giants but Phil Simms played almost his entire career with a top defense and had 1 super bowl I'll take Eli every day and twice on Sunday over him
@@barbaracaroll Eli played in the current sports entertainment scripted era where if you even breathe on the QB it's a roughing the passer penalty and a fine. QBs in the Phil Simms era took a physical beating on a regular basis because even the QBs were fair game.
@@barbaracaroll Look rookie, I've been watching the Giants since the mid 1970s and NFL football since the late 1960s. If you can't see the difference between the way QBs are treated today (Sports Entertainment and scripted outcomes - admitted in court by the NFL, not me - and that includes the Tyree helmet catch) vs. back then, I suggest you concentrate on video games and keep on drinking the kool aid.
The Rams stunk up the entire stadium in the first quarter. Some like to blame it all on Kemp, but he wasn't the one who kept drawing penalty flags from the officials.
And when Dickerson finally started getting hot Robinson got cute and went to Crutchfield at the goal line. Had to settle for a field goal and lost 16-13.
yeah as good as he was at being 'neutral' he, along with the giffer, both often leaked their lasting big blue loyalty lol... "there will be NO REPEAT!" 😌
At the end of the game Pat Summerall said "the Giants are going to spend Christmas Day in Fresno" I guess they stayed on the west coast before they played at San Francisco the next weekend.
@@tonyarceneaux286Tell me something I don't know! What point are You trying to make? The Rams played this game with a second string QB, and that is the main reason why they lost!
@@SingleTax In 1984 the Rams had a great running game and a lousy passing game. The Rams were a 1 dimensional offense and that is the reason why they could not beat the Giants. Penalties were not the reason why the Rams lost.
