I was at this race with my Dad. He was a big Spencer guy and I was a card carrying member of the Cookman fan club. I was hoping Corky would break character and do a "Jimmy Spencer" on Mr Spencer lol. Great race and it was a great day . RIP Corky
Great show. So many great names and so much good, clean racing. The 2 minutes from 38:20 -on says so much about the way real "sportsmen" ran races and were valued, as opposed to nowadays.
Hey guys thanks for posting these, but all of these videos are missing the one thing that set Stafford apart from everyone else. Post one Modified race with the driver introductions going on with the "Shaft " theme song by Isaac Hayes in the back ground. There is something special about hearing Jackie Arute (I think that is who it was) calling out the drivers with that playing in the back ground. I can still hear him calling out "on the inside pole, in the Mystic missile, Flying Brian Ross, Outside pole 3 time Stafford Motor Speedway Champion in the Number 15 Sonny Kozela modified driven by Bugsy Stevens and so on. You should go back to it!
Mike Joy, who went on to call NASCAR races for Fox, was the track announcer. You're absolutely right about the Shaft theme as the cars were coming out on the track. It still gives me chills.
