1984 Michael Jordan XRC! Just a brief history and how to avoid a fake. I got cut off due to lack of memory on my phone. Didn't really see any detailed RU-vid vids so enjoy !
I bought the 1986-87 Fleer Jordan RC in 1990 for $245. I bought the 1984 Star XRC (also BGS 8.0) in 2012. Now it's selling on ebay for three times what I paid for.
When I was a kid and trying to collect I never ever even seen this card at the 2 card shops in town…I do remember it was priced higher in becket than the fleer rc…..1987. It was like 3,000$ at that time and the 1987 fleer was like 700$ (1992) Correct me if I’m wrong…….
Great video! Everything said in this video is on point, except the part where you mention "Nobody really knew who Michael Jordan was..." This was farthest from the truth. I'm old enough to remember that he was a huge name since college, and there was so much hype about him during the '84 Olympics and especially the 1984-85 NBA Draft. There was tons of TV coverage about him and he graced magazine covers just like the times of the emergence of hype surrounding Shaquille O'Neal's and LeBron James' debut. Believe me, there was a lot of hype and buzz during Jordan's arrival. There is a reason why Star Company featured him on three different cards in their 1984-85 NBA regular set, and also included him in the 1984-85 Star Court Kings 5x7" Series II, which is arguably his true rookie card (TRC) as many reputable Star Company dealers recall the 1984-85 Court Kings 5x7" #26 being released several months before the 1984-85 Star #101.
Wow this is a great example of a true jordan rookie. The Star co. cards have always been my favorite sets of basketball cards. I have some but no 84-86 michael's and by the way these are his true rookie cards , Star was the only company license from like u said 83-86 so there it is cut and dry anyway nice collection ..

How can I tell if my 1985 star 5x7 super CB1 Michael Jordan is real?
Well Dark Knight there are ways to tell but believe it or not its not easy. There are levels to it , meaning there were more than one company making counterfeit or fake cards and some were easy to spot and some or most were dam hard to tell. Thats why beckett or a few other grading company's will mark truly fine copys as questionable because they cant even tell. But anyway , to my knowledge if the card has a very vibrant looking photo that blends with the red border or a faded or dull looking photo. Make sure its exactly 5×7 and the color , is it the classic Star Co. red or is it a off shade. Finally try comparing it to a real one that has been graded or on google images or even ebay. There are other ways but me do a little more research on the 5×7s and ill get back...

@@artax7438 thanks. I just bought 1 on ebay. I think it may be fake. The guy left a red 2$ sticker on the back. Who does that? He also said its authentic yet he admitted he pulled the beckett slab off it. ???
@ Really a two dollar sticker? Sounds fishy and he pulled a Beckett slab off it. Two things he dosent know what he has and lost out on hundreds of dollars or 2. he's full of bologna. How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking. Love to see pictures of it then i could really tell most likely.

@@artax7438 i paid 265. I don't know how to send photo on here. My email address is armyants2003@gmail.com.
yeah, I have a ton of the 117's graded 9.5 and they almost always have to have one 9 out of the 4. I'll look and see why they graded it a 9 and it will be flawless. Makes no sense other than they want people to resubmit it for a grade bump.
+Curtice James YA its all bullshit and its all about who u know at beckett. Dealer's get their cards graded way better than the average joe just submitting. It's bullshit and not fair but its true.
