Hydroplane racing COULD BE GREAT AGAIN if they would bring that beautiful sound of ROLLS ROYCE back! People miss THE NOISE. Or the new Ardima V-12 would be fine with me. The turning engine has pushed Fan's away with bordum!
I used to fly down from Kodiak Island Alaska to stay with my cousins as a kid and go the the hydro races. It was like the super bowl back than,to bad its not the same but such an expensive sport and a limited number of boats.Would be cool to see v8 boats about 20ft and 20 of them on a course today.
+radioguy1620 There's truth in that. I admit, I'm guilty of getting bored easily now too. I think H1 should offer an app that gives real-time race info, such as when a boat jumps the gun and do other things to embrace the technology. The tech is here to stay, so might as well use it to their advantage.
I try to talk to others nearby who are interested in the sport or some tech aspect. learn a lot sometimes. surprising how people are happy to talk sometimes, you are happier because everyone doesnt seem like a stranger .A good starting point is when something dramatic happens and go from there. sadly some people won't respond but go for it , almost as safe as racing . LOL
I had a nice, long conversation with Mike Noonan in Madison a couple of years ago. Very enlightening! I always thought one of the best parts of the sport is how accessible most people are.
This was the last year Atlas Van Lines sponsored a hydroplane. Too bad for Mickey Remund. I think he could have held off Chip if his equipment had held out.
