Hook & Tow 4.1 engine. In 1985 I bought a mint 1983 Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance Coupe w/only 30k miles. These were the worst motors ever to come out of Detroit. They were horrible. After breaking down twice a month, every month, w/engine problems, I sold it after only 4 months. It was that bad. And when it did work, you had no power to enter the highway, never mind trying to pass a slow moving 18 wheeler.

big, beautiful, shiny, comfortable interior, a dream to drive and ride in......garbage drive train and the entire car starts falling apart when it gets to be about 7 years old. that is how GM has engineered and built their vehicles from 1923 to the present day. this would have been a $1,500 car a few years ago. I can't figure who buys these? no one is going to buy a 40 year old car as daily transportation and it's not a sporty weekend car. I'm guessing 95% of them go to the middle east to wealthy sand people who want to pretend they're JR Ewing.

@@connor_flaniganThe issue I have with these asking prices near what they sold new is if you wreck it most likely the insurance company will total it and not pay you anything near what you paid for it. I argued that point with someone in a forum. Well I've got blah blah blah insurance coverage. Get real insurance companies are in business for a profit. One reason I rarely get my cars out to drive. Some airhead on a cell phone smacks you. Kiss it goodbye. I'm not knocking this seller by any means.

@@timw8228 they basically pay tax value, which on this car is probably around $500, if that. if you have an antique/collector car, they have insurance for those, but I'm not sure if any insurance company would insure a 40 year old Cadi for $20k.

@neilouelette3004: My experience was different. I bought an 86 Seville back in 1999 with the 4100. Mine did just fine for the year and a half I had it and drove it daily. I traded it in because it developed a bottom end knock at 122,000mi which I continued to drive it til 131,000mi. The only problem I had was the serpentine belt shredded off which was an easy repair. Mine had plenty of power and had no problem keeping up with or passing traffic. Not bad for a 4100.

That's when Cadillac had a nice brougham interior. I believe it was in '86 when they went to the cheaper looking Brougham interior. The headliner looks to have been replaced and who ever did it split it in two halves and they did a good job. I'm not surprised they had to do that to keep from breaking the headliner backing board. One indicator of a maintained car is the condition of the window washer fluid reservoir and coolant overflow. Criminey I don't how many of those I see just filthy. The underside is quite clean and rust free. It appears someone removed the load leveling rear shocks and level sensor. Not necessarily a bad thing. That whole system can cause nothing but issues. I like the paint color. Firemist paint, one of the better paint options offered. Nah I wouldn't be afraid to drive that 4100. Keeping the coolant changed with the tablets is the thing to do.

If you could swap out the 4.1 for a decently tuned 5.7 you would have a pretty cool car.
