This here is what I call a Cadillac. This time period and before. What GM makes in todays time are not Cadillac's. They're just dressed up chevy's with a Cadillac emblem on it.

@@davidpar2 - When GM decided to drop Pontiac, Saturn, and even Oldsmobile several years before, they should have also dropped Cadillac. If you're not going to keep and respect the history and traditional styles of a car brand, then it's time to leave well enough alone and let it go. At least Lincoln somewhat kept that classic tradition going with the new Lincoln Continental.

My folks bought an '84 Seville because of the styling. When I saw this as the 1980 redesign, I was in love. That hump trunk and the lines just won me over. Then, when my folks and I were going to friends, I spied one on the road and motioned to my dad the new Seville on the road. He was even more impressed than I was. Needless to say, when they came into some inheritance $$$, they bought the 1984 model. And we experienced the love/hate this car generated. No middle ground on this car. A bit like the '71 to '73 boattail Buick Riviera.

I used to had a 83 Cadillac Seville, elegante with the wheel cover on the trunk, & the rear window had the vinyl cover & it stopped at the rear passenger doors, after that it had a strip of aluminum with a blue light on each side, a sun roof & a Royce Rolls grill! Everything was elegant it had the luxury look to it thru the inside and out! What sucks about it it's that when I moved into where I live now I had to get rid of it cuz it was too big to fit here where I live in, so I sold it & never again I seen another 1 the same as the 1 I had, nor I never could find out the complete name of that special Cadillac just as a 83 Seville Cadillac!!

We had a 1984 Seville my folks bought new off the lot. Greyfern exterior with grey leather inside. Had almost every option on it except Seat Memory, Anti-theft and Moonroof. Truly a nice car with those distinctive lines. When we got it home day one my dad commented that he'd paid more for that car than he'd paid for the house they had, and he paid CASH for the Caddie. Wish l could have kept it.

First off, I know you can't do it all the time but I LOVE the long test drives. Secondly that is a gorgeous car and I'd give my left nut to own one like it in that condition. I've loved those type of Seville's since day one, no prettier Cadillac was ever made as far as I'm concerned. I've owned two caddy's in my life, an 80's model De ville and a 70's model Eldorado. I didn't care much for the De ville but the Eldorado was freakin' awesome.

Hey-ya, Nathan... Noooooòo pimping allowed on this lovely Seville!!!!! You can do that on your own cars, but it is a deal killer for a dedicated collector...I recently saw a '93 Brougham which had been raised w I th 22 in. Chrome spinners just sit and sit * the increase in height just made the car look ridiculous@!! ( unless you ARE a guy from the hood....nottttt![ I would apply a ceramic coating or F11 to this black beauty...helps protect against those annoyingly obvious scrstches... ...and, the wood trim on these 4-doors is flame and Birdseye maple...the real deal...

@Forgoten214
@Forgoten214 12 лет назад
I see, yea I noticed that after I watched the video thoroughly. I posted the comment too early before I heard him mention that it was a HT4100. I have the 4.9 myself, it's a great engine. HT4100 I hear mixed things about, like lower knock and leak issues. I see a lot with low miles because they usually don't make it past 120k, the HT4100. The 4.5 and 4.9 is where it's at for reliability. It is a beautiful car none the less.

@stellarfungk85
@stellarfungk85 9 лет назад
Wow what a beautiful car and a real eye catcher! I saw a 1985 Cadillac Seville on Craigslist and the seller had lowered the price from $2400 to $995! I was about to buy it, but when I called it was already sold. :( I'm kicking myself right now lol. I still have my '89 Cadillac Brougham, but I'm waiting on my husband to do an engine swap. Mine has a 307 Olds and I know this one is HT4100. I've heard it's notorious for the coolant leaking into the oil, is that true?
@TeeroyHammermill
@TeeroyHammermill 9 лет назад
stellarfungk85 Yes it's true. There is a decal under the hood that mandates the use of stopleak to prevent major engine damage. This applies to 4.1,4.5,4.9 and Northstars up to around 2003. The stopleak is available at any GM dealer. They are also known as "Coolant Cookies" or "radiator tablets/pellets" hence they are brown tablets. The HT Series requires 6 cookies while the Northstar requires 3. The cookies seal up the headgaskets WHEN they blow just like Cadillac engineers knew they would blow...LOL!!!
@stellarfungk85
@stellarfungk85 9 лет назад
Yes it is a gorgeous car! :)
@stellarfungk85
@stellarfungk85 9 лет назад
Thanks for your reply. Now I'm glad that I didn't end up buying this car after all! If course this Caddy is nice to look at, but it's very problematic under the hood unfortunately. :( It makes you wonder why GM would put something like that out knowing in advance how faulty the engine is!
@TeeroyHammermill
@TeeroyHammermill 9 лет назад
stellarfungk85 I would guess it was a combination of an arrogant and or cocky attitude from the engineers and the pressure from the EPA to meet CAFE standards. The engineers knew the engine would last throughout the warranty period with the use of stopleak so I guess they didn't care about the engine in the long term. I had an 86 Seville with the 4100 and an 88 DeVille with the 4.5. They both blew a headgasket even with the use of the stopleak. My 88 blew the headgasket so bad the stopleak only temporarily sealed the leak. On the 86 the stop leak became the headgasket after it blew. It took 12 cookies and I could see the stopleak seeping between the heads and the block and smell it as I drove. This happened at 113,000 mi and I kept the 86 until 125,000. The 88 Deville blew at 91,000 mi and required a $3500 engine rebuild. I hope this gives you a general idea on how long these engines last.

I believe the Buick Electra and Le Sabre was built off the same as the cars you've mentioned as well. I think the 80s was really a great era for GM they made some high quality amazing cars for that era. Compared to today, makes the new ones look like a joke.

PIMPIN... "Back in the 80's, if you were somebody, you had one of these." So true. There was a big time envy factor. From the late 70's thru the early 80's, the Seville's ruled the city streets. Now, they're "ghetto fabulous", which "ain't bad, neither"... The new Cadillac XTS is a little Seville-esque in back, and super classy.

have been driving cadillac brand since the early '80's. I have had other cars but always went back to caddy's. as of now I have a 2019 XT4 and it's a good reliable car. sounds like the gas lighters really got to you( there's lots more to it than what is said LOADLY) just do your homework and don't let other tell you the REAL facts. I will say there was a time when they did't seem to care about reliability but even then you took car of them they take care of you. I had my '85 Seville (4.1 liter engine {UGH}) up to 123,000 miles purring like a kitten on the original tranny and engine before someone crashed into her. I cried that night 😤😤

Beautiful though none the less. I see later in the video its a HT4100. Which is meh, not my cup of tea. I have the 4.9 DeVille myself and I love that engine. I love this color combination though. It's amazing, I don't like the slantback though personally it just looks weird to me. It would be awesome if it was a 89-93 DeVille/Fleetwood/Sixty Special in Black/Black. I'd probably buy it, so hard to come by these days in Black.

I agree, The Parisienne was built similar to the Caprice. It was an amazing car. I'd like one with the 350 actually. The 305 is the same they used in the Caprice as well. They're not high performance but they last forever. Very difficult to find now, especially in good condition. I remember years ago we had an old Velour and that thing lasted forever. I'm still trying to find a nice Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance in Black with the 350. Preferably 90-92. He was selling one He's in Cali though.

hey nathan, if you know, which im hoping you do, what on earth was the purpose of the bumper fillers? In my opinion it was a terrible idea because nowadays whenever you see any of the early 80 GM cars its very rare to find them with the fillers intact lol, theres just a big gap CHUNK missing lol. I was thinking the only possibility was incase of a minor bump, they crack instead of the damaging the body, but seems like a stretch! enjoying your DIY videos KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Yea I agree, The Northstar was terrible for years. It took them awhile for them to make it a reliable engine. Actually the 2006-2011 DTS with Northstar is rated as one of the most reliable luxury cars you could buy. Too bad its discontinued as Cadillac is going in a different direction these days. I miss the 80s and 90s Olds. They were tanks. I think the 4.5 and 4.9 Cadillac engines are the best they've made in terms of quality and reliability. My old 4.5 was 260k plus before it got totalled.
