I was the vice president of Toronto RC Helicopter Association and I am honored to be part of organizing this great event. It was a great 3 days we spend there in London and it feels like yesterday. 33 years later the hobby has come a long way but nothing erases these sweet memories
A UK model magazine described the winning machine as "a Kalt with some TSK parts". It certainly looks like a Kalt to me. Taya was an amazing pilot, totally upstaging all the other competitors by flying tail first circuits in the warm up. Nobody had ever seen it done before.
I hate to step on Dieters toes, but if you've ever seen the film about how Bell started making helicopters you'll see that they guy who perfected the heli for Bell, started off by making remote controlled heli models, they were even electric, OK they were connected to the mains, and not battery, but still it was an RC helicopter. Obviously I'm not being totally serious, but film I'm talking about is up on youtube, and it's well worth finding.
Robert, you are my hero! This rare film footage is outstanding - and we are proud of you and all other competitors and modellers, who had been part of the very first beginnings of the history of R/C model helicopters. I remember also my good friend Pedro Caldentey from Mallorca/Spain, who flew in the competitoion his first loop. So he got the award "hero of the broken rotorblade" … really good old times :-) I shared it on our fb-side here: facebook.com/RCHeliActionInternational/posts/861628173882443 Greetings Raimund
Good stuff there Robert. Brings back many good memories of my years in the buisness flying and selling GMP products. Mark Smith ( Dr. J's west coast hobby warehouse)
Hey It was a good time for all spectators and pilots. And RC hobby grew up since …but nowadays FAA is killing the Hobby with silly rules … and idiots flying drones ( recreational ) … Rober Gorham I salute you and Mike Mass for what you’ve done to the hobby! Thanks for sharing bringing back memories
That's the kind of helicopter I like.I had a Horobo shuttle.I had fun with that helicopter.I don't like the ways helicopters are flown today.I love the scale look especially the bell Jet Ranger.
Yes but primitive by todays ones , they were mechanical spinning a gyroscopic weight , a bit like spinning a bike wheel and holding it with each hand .
