Finally someone who uses decent batteries and jumper cables, so many people doing these starts videos don't and then wonder why theres smoke and flames everywhere.
Thank you for saving that old girl. It broke my heart when I saw the bumper was bent simply because the previous owner didn’t care enough to block it up. Excellent job.
It felt soooooo good hearing that truck start. In Jamaica we would say: " wa no dead, no call it duppy" this means that, never write something off, until you exhausted every option.
First time watching one of your videos. You got a keeper brother! I wish my ole lady wanted to help me wrenching on my truck. All I get is "how long is this going to take and how much is it going to cost" 😆🤣
NEVER use bricks or blocks to put under jacks, They will bust and break and will cause the vehicle to fall on you and kill you! You guys have been very lucky so far.
Glad that You started it with ATF. That seems to work “wonders”, most of the time. Engine sounds Great. I agree with you that’s a nice Classic to Project. Thank You for another Great Video !! H.
Good work guys I'm an ex army i was in this line for years it's very tough to start an junk engine after years. But you guys should be careful while getting under sometimes it may slip out of the jack. I love to see this kind works.god bless your entire team. Roy South down India...
An engine that has been a stopped for a long time has several items to check. And also gearbox and differential Here in Brazil this type of work is sometimes done too CONGRATULATIONS ON THE WORK 👍
I must say this was one of the best videos you did. Just a blast and good edit. See you are getting the intro and exit down. Looking forward to the next one and sure learning a thing or 4. See ya. Regards.
My father owned and drove a 1975 Freightliner WFT86 when I was very young back in the 70’s. My life revolved around my father and that truck. I remember when he would pull in the driveway after a long trip, he would hit that horn.
Always loved this style of Freightliner, I bought a 86 flc120 last year. Done alot of work still ain't close enough yet. Was in very poor shape but worth the price and time. You shouldn't have near the headache I've had. Great find and Keep us posted on this ol girl!
Looks promising. I believe in 85 that would’ve been an FLC 120 is probably a 425 being a B model. In its day that was a top of the line truck. Do a lot of cleaning fix the doors and you’ll have a pretty good reliable truck.
Before late 86 a B model wasn't a 425 without Air2Air. 87 models had A2A across the board here in 🇨🇦. I had both a 87 LTS wit a 350 A2A and a 87 FLA 120 wit a 425B A2A. Great engines. I'd have either again. This one in the video has no A2A so my thought is it's a 350 or 400 Bmodel.
James, what can I say... great job there starting up that flc really enjoyed ur vid. Im subscribed to your channel. Please do keep uploading videos, im really interested in following those next restoration steps. My respects from Chile
Awesome to see someone care so much for a old rig , Shame to see it in that condition, but it’s alive again. Hope to see many follow ups soon and progress over time, and remember James , ain’t nuttin finer then a Freightliner!!!! Lol. Stay safe
Man I love it she runs so god a super nice project man cant wait until that one is done cant wait to see the video of everything you do to it you are the man james
When I started at this company in ‘93 they had 84-87 FLC120 with kittys 425 turned to the hilt and 15 DO with 3.23 rears. Had a lot of fun back then. Those CAT’s all had all over a million miles on them the last I knew. Awesome ride.
Shes a beauty and I love to see second chances with anything. Like you said lool at it! It deserves restoration. Some tlc and commitment does the trick.
I had to say something before you do start up. I am glad to finally see someone who does not soak an engine with Either. Also new batteries, you are a pro. I love the trans fluid. That was my Father. Thank you for a Fantastic video.
Dear James Pretty and pretty wife. 👍👌👏 Very well done (video and work). The engine runs really great. 2) You two look and work really well together! Congrats for having such a relationship. 3) This truck rescue was done pretty professional! Not like most of those backyard or farm "mechanics" amateurs. Especially your hint about having proper battery capacity for starting made me smile. Thanks also for not using ether starting fluid spray. 4) Fortunately utube recommended this video to me. I'm also a big fan of Twin Sticks Garage Mark P. Hope you know and like him too. I also watch channel Bus Grease Monkey and Indiana Diesel for instance. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all involved people.
Incredible! My dad drove a truck for 43 years, he spent several driving a freightliner. Good to hear that classic come to life. Is that a Cummins diesel?
That old FLC120 has potential….modern FL Airliner cutoff and a 13-speed would have this in good shape! I’d want to drop the pan and check rods&mains, but that 3406 sounds healthy…..
All I can say James is WOW! What a great job getting the ole freighter running and sorta rolling. That cat runs awesome, I really like the transmission fluid in the filter .looking forward to the next one ☝️! NEW CHARGED batteries is the answer too ! Great job 👍🇨🇦
Great Will it run video. This is a Freightliner FLC and it looks like you have a 3406 B car engine. The engine sounds great and you have a great project! Can’t wait to see the final result!
I'm glad you found a conventional you are really happy I see I hope it starts up...you say you paid a lot of money..well the owner should have pulled it out and put batteries in it and at least try to have it ready for you
i would love to see you bring back that classic back to life? i looks like it will cost a harm and a leg to get it running again but i will be keep watching to see what you do to it 🥰💖
If this rig was decent shape would still bring $35,000-$50,000 with the market today So he’s got a lot of room to work and make it well worth it if he got it cheap
Brilliant video James, your obviously an accomplished engineer, I don't know much about America trucks, but it looks like a classic too me . I loved the whole feel of the video, with your wife or partner, and you friend . Look forward to seeing your next one . I am watching you from the UK 🇬🇧
I watched this from the start to finish! James makes the presentation exciting; he is knowledgeable, funny and patient. What an incredible show! I am on board and looking forward to future videos!
Good result, the truck has enough spirit to have a go at you! Buy this, you should have that.... Haven't people heard of availability an budget? Look forward to the next episode whatever the truck may be. What happened to that other Freightliner cabover you looked at?
Those were the days of the cabovers yet. Whoever had that truck new had a head turner. Conventional trucks like this were expensive and pretty rare. Definitely worth fixing up.
@@recessional5560 What are you getting at here? You make no sense. I did give credit where credit was due, I commented on the truck that was being viewed in that video. I said nothing bad about a cabover, but that wasn't even the subject of the video, it was about a conventional. Get your comments and your shit straight.
New Channel is Mathews Motorsports where he is starting a full restoration on a Peterbilt 359. Full tear down and rerail then repower. Huge amount of work. Pretty competent mechanical skills. He has a Peterbilt cabover coming in the months ahead.
Stumbled upon but really enjoyed watching. You're a 'modest specialist' James. Don't forget your own safety thought, your enthousiasm can get you in trouble. Ad (a lecturer in Nursing, 68 yo).
Very good video!!! great job cost hurt the drive wheels were flat and one stuck. but hey, the effort to get a machine like that is worth it. greetings from Argentina
I remember a lot of these were on the road when I started driving OTR in 1995. These were the top of the line back then. It's nice for the truck to be out of that prison and FREE AT LAST!! Many trucks of this vintage are making a comeback since the price of new ones (and the repairs of such) are completely unrealistic. You can legally drive the old trucks in all states except California (but then few drivers outside of big companies go there anymore) The cost to refurbish this to roadworthy condition will still be far less that buying a later model truck assuming you don't have transmission or rear end problems. It will be worth it.
Ничего не понял,что Вы говорите,но вижу,что делаете.Я сам всю жизнь работаю водителем.Удачи Вам!!!Глаза бояться,а руки делают!!! Всё у Вас получиться!!!
@@JamesPretty , there is such a thing that is called Google Translate. Here, let me translate the name of the person, as well as what they said to you. (Note, Google Translate does not get things right 100%, but it at least gets the gist of the conversation.) Sergei Nefedov 1 month ago I didn’t understand what you are saying, but I see what you are doing. I myself have been working as a driver all my life. Good luck to you !!! Eyes are afraid, but hands are doing !!! Everything will work out for you!!!
OMG I almost forgot the most IMPORTANT THING...The AUDIO WAS 💯 spot on... I did laugh @ how u was explaining to her about the door straps was broken & she had to BE VERY CAREFUL & not damage the doors. Then whenever it wouldn’t pull out u jump out of the truck flung the door WIDE OPEN all the way to the grill, BAHAHAHA LOVE IT.
James I think you got lucky with that motor sound pretty doggone good to me I can't wait to see what you going to do with that one but give your wife a big hug for me and cuz she did a great job on filming and clean looks like she's learned a lot from the boss haha I know the two of you work good together keep it up
I hope no one takes me wrong here, BUT, everybody going on about the truck….personally, I think that the “little lady” is a better find than any semi truck ever made!!!! Again, just MY personal opinion!!! Much rather see a “will it run” on her!! She’s PRETTY darn PRETTY if you want my opinion!!
