I remember watching this this was the last version of roller games as it stands. After this the two leagues kind of merged under Joan Weston to form the wrf. The Derby skaters outshined most of the roller games skaters. These roller games skators had to deal with other skaters like Jan vallow Rosetta saunders sherry Eric Barbara baker. Some side and measure it up but most ended up becoming cigarettes or basically glorified pack skaters. I wish WRF lasted a couple more years. And most people don't know this but Randy wittman was a figure skater for the Olympics although she never won a medal. This league was a mess it was full of theatrics and only the occasional real jam. And just for the record it takes a lot of talent to do what these skators are doing without getting seriously hurt. And I know because I auditioned for roller derby back in the day. I created my DJ of destruction nickname hoping it would become my roller derby handle
This is what killed the sport. Roller GAMES like action, which was fully theatrical, unlike the Roller DERBY, which was pure sport and straight skating. This kind of skating killed the sort.
@@jamesklatt I 100% agree with you. Roller GAMES was a total farce, and it killed the chances of a comeback for the more traditional Roller DERBY. I also think that the powers that be did not do enough to encourage a new generation of players to rise up, establish themselves with name recognition to replace the current superstars, who should have been aging out of the game. Joanie was skating into her 50s and Calvello into her 70s! They needed new blood for the sport to continue to thrive and for some reason they never even attempted to do so.
