This man literally changed the course of my life. I was 23 years old when this episode first aired at 11:55 pm one weeknight on my local PBS station. I was immediately hooked and because of Jack Horkhiemer I became an amateur astronomer that year.
I was 7 at the time of this broadcast and I still remember the feeling I got when I heard that music. Gives me chills seeing this again...thanks for the upload!
When I was a kid back in the 80s they use to have him on PBS right after Dr Who before the station went off the air for the evening. Yeah good memories. R.I.P. Jack. Sorry to hear about your passing.
Every time I think of Jack Horkheimer or hear the theme music it reminds me of Sunday nights after Dr. Who, as well as my grade school and high school years. R.I.P Jack.
This is awesome! Admittedly, I was the tough kid who was a closet geek as a kid, and didnt want his pals out on the street corner to know I used to sneak away from the block to watch Dr. Who on my b+w tv in my room on Saturday night. They woulda thrown me a beating if they knew I used to dig Horkheimer too and the creepy intro song that always went with the show. I never owned a telescope either, but always kind of admired how Jack was 100% into what he was doing and that alone inspired me.
yep, in philly during the 80's he was on pbs right after doctor who finished and the signoff. i will always remember this show. i loved it. we'll all miss you jack horkheimer!
Growing up as a child, I couldn't wait to watch his show. It was always informational and Jack made it exciting. But most of all, I loved the music. God bless you Jack!
This brings back memories. I loved this, I was also around 10 years old when this was on the air. And the music is really great, an electronic version of Debussy's "Arabesque #1" by Japanese musician Tomita...wonderful!
I grew up watching Jack, a.k.a. "The Star Hustler". I was one of those kids who wasn't very interested in Science or Astrology...mostly because my teachers were so darn boring. But thanks to Jack, I learned far more than I did in class...and he made it fun and interesting. Thanks Jack and God Bless...!!!
Loved this show....loved the music (Debussy's First Arabesque)... Reminds me of night skies and quite nights downtown, walks, beautiful women...and just being in the moment late at night as PBS would close with Jack's show. Great memories.
