That's me by the national '3rd fence'. As I walked back to the finish I saw Burnt Oak's junior trainer dashing frantically, chasing after it riderless. He would have run around on his own all day!
.....wow...crashing fall by Burnt Oak.....a hair-raising ride for PS.....those fences were so beautiful to look at back in the day.....again some great old favourites here including of-course the ill-fated Smiths Man.....
I believe the fences were dressed with Norway Spruce rather than Sitka Spruce. There was one theoretical argument I heard recently of reducing the field to 30 and having the fences modified to those in the 1980s. It is unlikely to happen any time soon, but its an idea.
