And rust buckets. These trucks would fall apart in the appalachians. They would rust away in no time. Most of them would rust the frame out between the bed and cab. I know they were tough looking trucks which the pansy suburban men thought made them good. The bodies would shake apart after five or six years from the rusting. I had a uncle who would fix them and he did well welding the frames back together. He had a fleet of rotten yotas in the bottom. Engines and trannys would run forever though. But everyone who needed a real truck knew to buy American.
But to some Mexicans this truck gives them ptsd and memories of one rolling up to a block of apartments with someone in the back manning a heavy machine gun lighting up the building sometimes there own
I remember wondering one night, years ago, what happened to Marty’s truck. After a little googling I found the page were they gave the history on this truck, and I started following the rebuild project. Such an iconic truck, thank you for bringing it back to its former glory!
I've watched this video, many of times. And I tell you, it gives me hope for my truck. I have an 85' Toyota Pickup 4X4, and I'm gonna restore her too. Nothing comes close to the factory look and ride of a Toyota 4X4.
jaryd t nice! I'd like to compare one from your country to an American version. I wonder how different they are? I would think less emissions on Aussie version.
@@jason127x99 the Hi-lux is the same truck, for some reason it wasn't called that in the US. Top Gear proved without a doubt it's an indestructible truck, it even survived a 20 story block of flats demolition.
My favorite movie. I live 3 blocks away from (Marty's )home and when ever I have a chance I drive by.......And by the Burger King that comes out in the movie because i work close by there, in burbank.I miss old films...
@AOMechMarine AOMechMarine Come to California. I'll show you all the truck clubs and truck shows. Theres truck clubs in almost every city in the Bay Area.....not including all of Southern California. From chevys to toyotas.
My neighbor owns a 84 pickup 4x4 black like Marty’s truck in back to the future and a lot of people always ask if the truck is for sale but he always says no because it’s been in the family for 40 years . Some things just can’t be replaced no matter the price
this video needs a new title. I had no idea I was going to watch a video of the story of marty's actual truck. It deserves to be mentioned. What an amazing story.
Marty's truck is next on the project list after I get the Jurassic explorer done! This has great angles of the truck! Definitely great source material! Great video!
One of the best looking pickup truck ever! This truck inspired me to get a black on black truck myself...tastefully modified for the movie and practical for daily use. Love movie and the cars!
The 1985 toyota truck is one of the best machines ever built. Too bad they dont let us buy such awesome 4wd vehicles any more. Some of the parts from the truck i owned as a teenager are in this truck. I am happy to see them brought back to life! Thanks Patrick!
I dream of one day owning an exact replica of marty's pickup so i can drive round blasting THE POWER OF LOVE and reminiscing my childhood watching these movies with my Dad (R.I.P} when life was good and didn't spend every moment of every day thinking about ending it all and feeling like a failure. Shit was so much better back then, albeit i was only born 7 month before BTTF was released and obviously only picked up on it 5 years later haha.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible. I wish this video had more traction so that more people could see it. Really an absolute marvel that this truck survived this long and then ended up in such good hands! A real dream come true for BTTF fans everywhere.
bringoutthelegos yep built like little tanks! Toyota was trying to corner the small trk market back then. So they put a lot of quality and effort into them. I read a story about that.
You don't think a lot of people will say it's their favorite movie? Are you kidding? Here's a little story: Where I work, we have people from all over the world come to work for a few months (up to a year) and then go back home. They are from all over the world: China, New Zealand, Russia, Germany, Japan. You get the idea. Anyway, one of the things we do when a new group comes in from wherever is have them fill out a questionnaire that asks them "getting to know you" questions, like, "What's your favorite color, band, food, etc". One of the questions is, "What's your favorite movie of all time?" Without exaggerating, on average, about 40 to 50% of the people - from all over the world, remember - say that "Back to the Future" is their favorite movie of all time. Now THAT is a testament to how awesome that movie is, and well loved.
The 1985 Toyota Truck was the last year with the straight axle front suspension the best design for hard core off-roading. LOVE this truck! I used to own one, the 22R motor was a real workhorse.
If Toyota literally made this truck again as is with modern engine and safety, but still keep that “RC Baja Truck” look the same….id buy two in a heartbeat! Gorgeous truck!
Legendary reliable vehicle with great movie history. My dad had one of these back in 80s and the car lasted for many years for him. Granted they are not powerful vehicles, but the reliability is outstanding!! Awesome truck!!
patty .s I would rather have the SR5 in the Tundra. Much power. And if you wanna go crazy throw a supercharger and chip. I don't want to stress my engine and I don't want to get tickets so I keep mine stock ⛽
The Toyota hilus is the most badass truck ever made, top gear put it through hell and it still ran. You can drown it, crash it, burn it, hit it with a wrecking ball, and park it on top of a building that will blow up, and it will still run after some minor repairs.
Omg! I live in the are. I am a huge fan of the movie and that truck when they showed it in the movie. I was out in your area and I recognize most of the scenery in this video. I’d love to see this in person. That’s amazing, you did great work.
bought my buddies 86 SR5 turbo 4x4 in 91 after returning from the first Iraq war. ran it to 97 with no problem at all. clutch went out, took it to Toyota dealership in Jax FL. new clutch, but then asked head mechanic about a total engine rebuild and we did it (new turbo also). was amazing. then in 99 it went from dark blue to bright white, line x in bed. new glass, new seat work with foam and Cobalt twill apolstry. my friend had enough lift for 33 12.5 and ran Dunlop and then BFG all terrains. sweet sound system, had sunroof. not sure if sunroof was factory or not. just a very solid, fun little truck to drive 😁. divorce in 2001 forced me to part with it. got my kids though 😁 end of story 😁
I fully restored a red 81 SR5 with only 21k original miles to factory condition except for a 3" lift, 32" tires and period correct custom wheels. I can honestly tell you that it turns more heads than a Lambo
Great product placement by toyota. I wanted a 4x4 toyota pick up eversince i was 6 and first saw it in back to the future. And now i finally have a 2019 4x4 hilux and love it, and been to the lake, and everywhere else!
I'd rather have one of these than a DeLorean. 1 it just looks freaking awesome and aged well. 2 I know it'll perform how it looks. I think the DeLorean is lame to be honest.
No offence, but it sounds like shit! High revving with not much speed to show for it. Exhaust sounds like it is blowing too. Looks amazing though and well done for saving it!
I had a 1988 Toyota Hilux Double Cab for over 15 years. 2.2L engine, no air conditioning, no power steering. Not the most comfortable drive... but it would go anywhere! I now have a 2004 3.0L TD Hilux Double Cab and it's still going strong!
I don't understand how some of the idiots that ruin important movie vehicles even get their hands on them in the first place. Seriously, who's idea was it to paint it orange? Same thing happened with the Bullitt '68 Mustang too, some idiot gutted it and turned it into a drag car only to let it sit and rot until somebody tracked it down.
Because often the vehicles aren't that important when the movie is first made, and the production company can't keep it around. Not to mention many movie cars suffer tons of damage during filming. And so they auction it off or sell it outright, as a vehicle or as scrap.
My favourite pickup truck by far and favourite vehicle from the film over the delorean p.s I always thought Marty might dabble in a bit of drug smuggling if you think about it he had the perfect set up a time machine and a pick up lol
I might move to Nevada and was thinking of a modern used Tacoma , but now since I’m such a car parts fiend, I’m thinking that 85 Sr5 is what I really need
Awesome! Glad you are back... I really enjoyed this video, and I agree with some of the others, viewing the interview is cool, but I want to see more of the truck! Thanks for doing this Chris. I think certain vehicles will just do way better than others so don't get discouraged. It is volume and quality which leads to success. Quality is certainly above and beyond!
