This is my era. Loved David Meece. It's hysterical to watch this some 34 years later. Those backup singers. Hahaha. It really was cool back then. Lord, may we still heed the same call in these lyrics.
This is a rarity to see: David performing without sitting behind a piano. I love the story behind it. He is a true showman that's for sure. One of the most underrated artists that has never won a Dove Award (should have for We Are The Reason) in my honest opinion.
I am blessed to be from Nashville, Tennessee. Living there, I was very plugged into the contemporary Christian music scene and was able to see and meet nearly every big name in the business growing up there. I was in the audience during this performance at the 1986 Dove Awards. After the awards, the audience and artists would walk about 2 blocks down to mingle and have soda and coffee with one another at a reception area in one of the nicer hotels there. It was one of the few times you could shake hands, hug necks and get pictures with people like Amy Grant, Larry Norman, Russ Taff, Bill Gaither, Andre Crouch and countless others. I was barely 16 the night of this performance and I remember meeting David Meece at the after-hours party and how kind, gracious and humble he was with a shy teenager who was star-struck like I was back then. I grabbed a stranger and had them take a picture of us with my cheap 35mm and I still have it till this day! I always pray that God continues to use David and all of the great music he has made for countless decades and future generations to come. I'm always amazed he never received the credit he was due by the GMA and the Dove awards. Very hard to understand given his talent and calling.
I saw David during soundcheck in Abilene Tx;we were onstage,off to the side.Full band rehearsing"Falling Down",Rockin song!Sounded great!85' I think.I lived in Nashville in the early 90's,SO cool.I attended a Dove awards(partial).Nice to see my heroes up close,in the Auditorium entrance;Armond(Imperials),Patillo,McSpadden.Cuz of my songwriter roomate,i got to have lunch with the drummer from the band GLAD(Art).Nashville was such a great experience,but too much competition in session work back then.
I saw David Meece in March 2010 at a concert in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He autographed a Bible my wife and I have, and we had our picture taken with him.
I'd never seen David anywhere other than at a piano until this video. Some things can't be unseen, lol. It was what we were doing in 1986, and this was well done, but I greatly prefer seeing and hearing the man at his instrument.
What a blast from the past! As a teenager I finally found some Christian music other than hymns!! Of course my super conservative church didn't like this a whole lot; especially the dancing.
