WOW! We sure were the shiz-nit back then! :) I was having a hard time remembering where the heck I was but after watching I found me! LOL! Sure loved these times...we were so proud of our Mighty Mustang Marching Band back then!! Thanks for posting this!!!
Really sad what WO-S's band has deteriorated to after being so good back in the day. I remember in the 80s it was West Brook, Vidor, and WO-S as the largest and best marching bands in SE Texas, always making 1s in both marching and concert. Now West Brook is a shell of it's former self and WO-S has like 20 members. Only Vidor has kept up the tradition over the years. WO-S started shrinking gradually throughout the 90s after Finley left, and West Brook went from great to mediocre almost overnight after Trousdale left and they turned into a corps band. Vidor seemed to have a succession of directors after Smith retired that all studied under the previous directors so the culture didn't change much. It's sad that these groups can't carry on tradition for decades like the bands in other parts of the state. In West Texas bands like Odessa Permian and Midland Lee have been top shelf for decades and kept mostly the same style (they both have gotten a little more hardcore corps style recently, but do it well and keep hints of their traditional styles).
