Playing much larger schools in the city made it difficulty for the Burke basketball team to qualify for the state tournament. In 1986, a team had to win 60% or more of their games to become eligible for tournament play. That year we played every team in the city. We qualified and we're seeded number 12 in Division 3/ South Sectional. This was truly one of my favorite teams. You can hear their announcer say that City Teams lacked the discipline to be successful on the State level. This is the year that the Burke established its reputation and made the critics change their minds about City basketball.
