In this video I do a walk around on a 1986 Yamaha YZ 80. I purchased this motorcycle in non working order and it will require some maintenance and cleanup. Great little project my wife can learn how to ride a motorcycle on, and a bike I can keep for my son when he gets older. In this video I talk about all the problems I can see in the first instance. This project will have a few different parts in the future, so be sure to stay tuned and subscribe.

Bought myself an 86 yz80 when I was around 10 years old. 22yrs ago now. I loved that bike it was so powerful. The powerband was like no other when it hit lol no exaggeration the torque had to double or triple when you rolled on it into powerband yeeeeeeehaaaw I hurt myself so many times and loved every moment of it!!! Only thing id say is don't order factory bolts and springs etc unless its actually specialized otherwise just buy regular bolts etc at the hardware store.

Nice. This project has died. I have it all back together and there is just to much wrong with it to fix. The guy I bought it off did a number to it for sure. I may try and find another one and keep it as a parts bike. Haven’t decided

@@bigair0176 What is wrong because im getting the same bike. Its not running and also the clutch doesnt work. You think it will be fixable? :)
@bigair0176
@bigair0176 4 года назад
Straßen Apotheker just depends dude. You won’t know till you start pulling it apart. The clutch is easy enough to replace. All bikes for most part are fixable, just depends on how easy the parts are to get and how much you want to spend. Pulling it apart to see what’s wrong first will be the first step. Sometimes all ya need is a good carb clean and it will fire right up.

Just got one same color I think they are 1990 ! 86 I think is air cooled
@bigair0176
@bigair0176 2 года назад
1982 was the first year of water cooled. 1986 was the first year of the front disk brake. Also the air box design is from a 1986. 1987 changed. Pretty sure it is a 1996. Cheers

Hey my neighbor is selling one exactly like that one it's a 1986 YZ80 and he wants $500 but he says it doesn't stay running he thinks it is the carb. Do you think it's worth buying and restoring it to brand new factory condition?
@bigair0176
@bigair0176 Год назад
I priced one out after I bought mine and I was going to spend at least 2000$. I ended up saying no and sold the bike for parts. But if it’s just a carb it won’t be that expensive to fix or replace. Depends on the totality of the shape of the bike

I’ve never heard anyone say yzed 80. I’m about to pick one of these up tomorrow it’s supposed to have a stuck piston.

Nice! I’m Canadian so “zed”. Lol. At least these bikes are easy to work on. It’s finding the parts that’s usually more difficult.

@bigair0176

I’m pretty sure as long as you know the year you can order them from eBay or amazon. Ebc brakes are a decent brand.

@bigair0176
@bigair0176 3 года назад
I’m afraid I don’t. You would have to pull it apart and see if it’s been bored out. Either stock or oversized. Depends on if it has been rebuilt. I would venture to say a bike this old would be rebuilt.

What fuel mixture does it take because I have one and need to know
@bigair0176
@bigair0176 4 года назад
Manual says 20:1 or 24:1. You could even do 32:1. Just depends on how smoky each mixture is and your preference. I would do the 24:1 personally.

Hey man, kinda late to the party here but if you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for it? There’s one near me for sale about in the same condition and I’m wondering if it’s a price I should pay. Thank you
@bigair0176
@bigair0176 3 года назад
I believe she paid 300$. I ended up selling it cause there was way to many things wrong with it. Woulda cost about 2000$ to get it close to what I wanted to get it to. Parts were hard to come by as well.

That’s what the one for sale around me is. What where the main problems or parts hard to find?
@bigair0176
@bigair0176 3 года назад
@@brodygow1777 plastics were impossible to find. Clutch. Shifting gears, shifter spline and a few others like brakes, tires. Was basically a total overhaul. Top end had low compression. Lol it was a long list. I didn’t want to do an engine split to fix the majority of the major problems. One it costs way more then the bike was worth. Two The parts were to hard to come by. I thought about finding another parts bike to make 1 bike but I couldn’t find one. Hope this is helpful for you
