I forget which year it was. Peter Jantzen followed Brock on the last lap, trying to get his bit of glory & spun it . He was a real showman , I remember having a chuckle. I was actually disappointed in Frank Gardner after the race.
The Euro Sierras and Bimmers were all cheatey, here in Oz we raced to the rules, not a Euro 'interpretation' As many will remember Harves and Moffat won Spa the same year in a Commodore as the NINE Bimmers in front were all cheats. The guards were modded as those Texaco cars had a bigger front tyre than any other Sierra. The fuel should have been what was supplied by the fuel supplier at the track. Anything else would have been illegal. As it was the fuel used really suited turbos, not normally aspirated engines. So the Commys were at a disadvantage to start with. There was several points raised by several other teams re those Euro prams.
You do realise that cars 10 & 05 were the only Commodores that had 12” tyres . Perkins and Grice were asked why that don’t run the big tyres like Brocks cars - they both said “legally you can’t fit them in “ Edition 1 of the 1987 Bathurst yearbook. Has a chapter in it about the illegal Mobil cars - Alain started illegally in 20th when best time by Jon Crooke was 27th using a Ford 9” diff. Also Win Percy bought the winning shell of car 10 which is in England - win confirmed with me at Oran Park in 1989 that the car had the wheel arches had been modified “ LIKE THE TEXACO CARS “ Win said . WTC in Japan the texaco Sierras changed their guards to make them legal and they won and were quicker than the “high tyres “ run in practice.

What a load of beurocratic crap. Plastic wheel arches were set in the wrong position which gave absolutely no benefit whatsoever yet they were still canned. Soper was the winner and always will be in my eyes.
