I too recall these new. I remember an article that pitted one of these against a 454 Chevelle. Half track - it was all GN, then the cubic inches started to take over. Regardless, those wheels look perfect on this car, and the few mods are worth the investment. Thank you Mr Magnante and High Octane Classics ~ Chuck

Man I loved that car when it first came out! I couldn’t afford it back then! But I bought two monogram 1/24 scale models of that car, and I still have them on my shelf today!👌😂👍 that car was even faster than a stock corvette back then! Amazing! Now a valuable collectible. Great video Steve!👌😎👍continue getting better!

My bride and I test drove a '87 Buick GN back in '89. She was a bit wary of it due to it's sinister appearance, but she liked the interior quite a bit. All was fine, until I failed to resist the urge to step on it- after she was able to pull her head off the headrest, she looked at me and said "take this back to the lot- we ARE NOT getting this car." Yep, I blew it. Oh well, no telling how many tickets I might have ended up with! Steve, you look better each video- can't wait to see you on your own channel, crawling through the junkyard again!

To give some real world perspective, I purchased a bone stock GN in April '89, with 18k miles and it ran a best of 14.1 in the quarter mile. Granted it was having traction issues with it's half worn original Eagle GT's, and I was a 22 year old idiot trying to learn how to race. Im sure good tires and a good driver could have done better. The good news is I still own it and it still looks and runs great with only 37 k miles today.

I am original owner of a 28K miles 1987 Grand National bought as a dealer leftover November 3rd 1987, the dealer had 2 black T types, 1 White T Type and i bought the Grand National. The only reason i bought it was March of 1987 i bought a Blk/blk IROC and by Oct 1987 it was T-boned and totalled by some women who drove thru a stop sign,with 5200 miles. Some engine bolt ons, stainless exhaust, cool can, intercooler from *89 turbo trans am, one respray in 2015, Not afraid to run against Dodges and Mustangs at the stop lights!!

Worked for a beer distributor in Atlanta in '96. The owner had a GNX for a daily driver. He sent a couple mechanics to NC(?) to pick up a low miles (less than 100mi) GNX to put in his car collection. Steve, looking good!

I remember going to New England dragway on street nights in the late 80s early 90s and there would always be a dozen or so of these cars there. Some would run in the 10s. It was cool to watch them humiliate the 5.0 mustang guys.

I heard a couple of things about that car 1. Buick understated the HP and torque to keep insurance rates lower 2. Corvette owners were pissed that these cars could beat them at half the price so Buick was ordered to scuttle them.

Hard to believe one of the baddest muscle cars ever to come down the pike was made in the car-lame 80s. I'm ready for some more junk yard crawl action, and I bet Steve is too.

The Grand National was the only car that GM didn't protect the Corvette from. No other GM car was meant to outperform the Corvette, but somehow, this one slipped through the cracks.
@jukeboxzero1

Well, maybe that's true for 1987 but the 1989 Turbo TA (with the Buick V-6) also outperformed the '89 Vette.

Beautiful car, but the rear deck lid emblem is incorrect, there was no 'intercooled' moniker back there, only on the sides, other then that and I'd rather keep the stock chrome wheels on myself but...not a deal breaker
