I always felt that the Donruss photography was lack-lustre

Turning the box upside down is a good way to ruin the cards

How do they look? To me good. All 10’s. 😃 grading has caused us to focus too much on condition. Show me a well loved card of a star and it’s like a used car that is dependable. But I do see the necessity of grading. If I’m buying from my friend I’d be less concerned with grading.

you're definitely right those 80s cards have depreciated so much over the years. personally, i only invest in pre 1934 and i mainly just buy cobb, ruth, wagner, plank, and sometimes gehrig. i don't do it for "collecting" or the joy of putting together a set, it's strictly for business purposes and that makes it less enjoyable for sure. i almost bought a 1915 cracker jack cobb sgc 50 a while ago, but the seller wanted 13.5k and i offered only 11k. it's hasn't sold in months which supports my belief that those higher value cards are getting harder to sell for profit. i sure hope most vintage cards never depreciate though, i have a shitload i plan on selling in a few years.

I agree pre 1934 is a great way to go. I hope prices hold up and I would think they would. I like nice looking rare low pop cards in psa/sgc 3 - psa/sgc 6. CJ cobb is a great example. If prices do drop I would think commons drop first. The stuff you mentioned I would think goes up in value or drops last if at all. Big auction houses still get big money on the good stuff. What do you have for Ruth cards?

@@thecollector893 yeah there still is huge money in the vintage big names, which is why i chose to collect just them. they are almost like historical pieces of art or antiques in my eyes. i don't think those will depreciate, but some might be harder to sell quickly in the future with a smaller collector base. i've witnessed a huge price increase over the last two years. the green cobb t206 skyrocketed as well as the Goudey Ruths. i don't have anything spectacular when it comes to Ruth, just a few Goudeys and a '48 Leaf in psa 3-4 range. i regret not buying a lot more of them a few years ago. I remember in 2017 a psa Ruth 149 would sell for about $3000 and now you'd be lucky to get a nice one for under $4500 to $5000. it does concern me a little that something like a 15 CJ Cobb in vg-ex would be up for sale for so long considering how low the pop report is on those. the market is weird like that too, with lots of low pop caramel or m116 sport life etc. etc. cards that don't have much value but the t206 set commands huge value with large pop reports.

amazing how prices have gone up. the t206 cobbs are nice but I stay away since it seems like prices are driven up too much. I could be wrong but it seems like not much more room for those to keep going up. What do you think about 1920's ruth American caramel cards

@@thecollector893 there is definitely some fraudulent bidding on ebay. last week a psa 3 green cobb sold for 7000 by Probstein, and it was relisted and it sold again. The high bidder from the 7,000 winning sale was also the highest bidder until the very end of the relisted sale. If a buyer did not pay, he would not be bidding again on the relisted item, he would have been blocked. I got my Ty Cobbs when they were a lot cheaper, I think they are almost double in value since I paid for them. I didn't mean to minimize the awesomeness of a psa 3 Goudey Ruth by saying they aren't special, because they are. I just wish I had EX-MT grades. I think the Ruth caramel cards are really rare and I regret not picking any up. I guess I just went right for the Goudeys because that's the stereotypical Babe Ruth card. It's hard for me to tell if a Ruth Caramel is extremely expensive or just sort of expensive, I don't know much about the different sets.

I agree with what you are saying and you made some good points. Seems like the t206 cobbs and Goudey ruth's are heading to a level of value closer to a 52 topps mantle. not sure if it will happen but seems like it. I actually have several caramel ruth's and will try do a video sometime and point out differences in value/demand..

As a boy I put together every Donruss puzzle from packs from the time they came out until 92 leaf. The Clemente in the Hank Aaron were my favorites.

If I remember right someone told me that sealed cello pack cards with stars are seen are 1.5 to 2X low book value. However, that was in the 90's

Nothing beats the Bo Jackson rookie, I got it in a pack in like 91’ when I was 9 and it was like I hit the lottery, I think I paid $2.50 for a pack in 91’ and I got the bonds in the same pack but didn’t realize who he was at the time 😆 the McGwire is also a cool card from that set
