Seemingly out of nowhere, Aurelia Dobre 🇷🇴 stole the show at the 1987 World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam 🇳🇱. She beat a packed field, including the reigning World Champions Oksana Omelianchik and Yelena Shushunova, as well as her teammate Daniela Silivaș.
Just shy of her 15th birthday, Aurelia is officially the youngest World AA Champion in history. (Ofc we all know that title actually goes to Olga Bicherova.)
Aurelia had a magnificent competition in Rotterdam, taking home the beam title as well. Unfortunately, she would suffer a knee injury not too long after this that would leave her unable to be in peak form for the subsequent Olympic Games in Seoul 🇰🇷--where she would only finish 6th AA.
Still she remains one of the most popular gymnastics champions, and is still popular on social media to this day!
