maybe the greatest upset in MLB history, oh wait that was the '88 World Series... the Mets got old (Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez) or underperformed (Howard Johnson, Lenny Dykstra), but Gooden & Cone were the top 1-2 combo amongst starters and Randy Meyers could close with anyone... Orel Hershiser's 24+Ing's and only 5 runs given up was all-time great performance coming in to get a save on top of 3 starts... fax!!!

@@MrBmick79 Yep, for bumping Gooden to the bullpen for Game 4 and for putting Gooden in the game late instead of Randy Myers.

Still can't believe they lost this series. They beat the Dodgers 10 our of 11 during the year but lost to them in 7 games

Made no sense how back then they rotated home field instead of just giving it to the team with the better record which in this case would have been the Mets

a lot of these dodger players came to my brother's school in 1988 for a program one night that was to commemorate students that had done well. I remember Steve Sax, Mickey Hatcher, and Alfredo Griffen. It was funny because the players talked nothing of baseball, but the parents all asked questions about the season. kinda funny!

That’s NOT strange at all. That’s their job.. When you go out with your friends, let’s say to dinner, do you sit there all night & talk about your jobs? No, you don’t.. Why should they? 😎

If you were paying attention earlier in the game, they point out that the scoreless inning streak is a regular season record and anything that happens in the postseason DOES NOT COUNT towards that record.
@t-bo2734
@t-bo2734 2 года назад
@@SuperfanDK Which doesn't change the fact that his streak ended here after 67 innings, regardless of arbitrary rules. There is nothing consecutive or contiguous about what he did through the end of the 1988 regular season and what he did at the start of the 1989 regular season.

You can tell this team was tired of Frank Cashen's way of running the team, and putting Gregg Jefferies on the team as in essence the Teacher's Pet, they pretty much all wanted out

So many bad moves in such little time. Darryl straight up said he was done. The funny part is that a few of those guys ended up Yankees less than a decade later, even the pitching coach

Ridiculous statement!! Jeffries was a good hitter He deserved to be on the team.. You don’t want guys that are jealous of new guys coming in.. That’s a bad recipe. Just look at Big Ted Machine.. A lot of Cohesiveness.. They were awesome from ‘70-‘78!!!

McCarver wrote a book and says he let Gibson take a bite out of a sandwich he was eating. Then, instead of throwing it in the trash like a normal person, he took a bite after him, "to prove he wasn't racist". That's how weird this guy is, besides being a dreadful broadcaster. They threw him at us for thirty years. What a joke 😂
