The final contest of the 1987/88 ASP World Tour season. The Coke Classic was held mid-April in 1988, and after the two previous contests in Australia it was down to two contenders for the world title. Damien Hardman beat Gary "Kong" Elkerton in the semifinals to clinch his first world championship. This was a historic finish because Tom Curren had dominated the previous 2 1/2 years on tour and few people would have given Hardman a chance at dethroning him. This is also the season where Kong dominated Hawaii and was considered the favorite to win the title coming into Australia.
Final Contest Results: 1. Damien Hardman 2. Barton Lynch 3. Gary Elkerton Tom Curren 5. Tom Carroll Rob Page Ted Robinson Martin Potter
