I miss this era. My father and now my brother, both in this video, are gone now. Even if the race remained unchanged since 1988, it will never be the same now.
I miss it too! I was 18 here. Attended 36 Indy 500's with my Dad and he passed this year...Oh how I miss these days! You are right it will never be the same without him. I do cherish those memories! Sorry about your loss as well...
@@frankmikolay5815 Thank you sharing your special memories. I am sorry for your loss. Fathers have such a huge impact to their sons. Our makes everything that was shared together that much more special. Take care!
What can I possibly say that would convey how grateful I am that you posted this video. I can’t tell you how therapeutic and comforting it is for me. It feels like I’m there. Thank you so so so much.
I'm in your video...over there in C stand! 1988 was the first year we sat there and have never given up those seats... today we own those sames seats plus paddock by start finish and also in the new paddock penthouse... so we now have 3 different locations for seats.
I'm in stand C too! I was 14 years old and attending my 2nd race. This video is great. I saw the 87, 88, and 89 races, took almost 30 years off and then brought my wife to the 2017, 18 and 19 races. We know have seats in the Paddock Box a little up from the start/finish. Maybe this pandemic will go away so we can all get back there.
@@BW71tr6 you were 14? I was 18 Years old- just graduated high school, this was my 7th 500, my first 1982. I have not missed a race since 1982 (except 2020 pandemic). This year is my 40th year.
This was my first Race Day (1988) when I was 8 years old. I have not missed one race since and have even sat in the same exact seat every year. Thanks for posting this video.
I love Indy what a great video from the perspective of the fans looks like everybody had a great day. I'm from Reading,Pa the home of Penske Racing for 4 decades on Riverfront Drive been in the shop many times Rick lived in flying hills what a great guy Indy truly is the greatest race of all.
That would have been my birthday and close to our vantage point. We sat a little higher, Tower Terrace, Section 45, Row N, Seat 1 - thanks for the wonderful memories!
At the very beginning, you can hear the old big bang music they used to play early race morning on the public address system from George Freije and the Freije All Star Band. Very rare and often forgotten lost tradition.
So true! Watching the day before the traditional raceday, I just mentioned that out loud to my wife. The music when entering the track is priceless, at least among this old timer. Love the interviews, too. One of the best years of my attending the 500.
@indystang Thank you for your comment and interest. I think I have some footage from another year, maybe 1989, but it is so choppy that I don't know how much is solid enough to post.. I will look through it and see what I can do. Be sure to check out home video of the 1957 and 1963 Indy 500 races found on my channel.
