1988 NCAA Tournament Championship Game Oklahoma @ Kansas 4/4/1988 This one is still hard for me to watch. I don't care what anyone says, this was a home game for Kansas!
"I don't care what anyone says, this was a home game for Kansas!" Not an excuse. The Sooners came to Allen Fieldhouse two months before this and won by eight points. OU beat KU on its actual home floor, so having to play KU in KC is not the reason OU lost this game. Plus, KU has lost Tournament games in KC before, losing the 1940, 1953, and 1957 title games in KC, and also losing the 1995 Sweet 16 to Virginia and the 2017 Elite Eight to Oregon.
And we (Kansas) lost the 1953 and 1957 NCAA Championship games by 1 point each game….and the 57 Championship was in triple OT too. We are the only program that has lost 2 National Championship games by 1 point each. And North Carolina is the only program to win 2 NCAA Championship games by 1 point each (1957 and 1982). UNC has 6. Kansas has 4. And it could so very easily be Kansas 6, UNC 4. Or if Kansas had just 1 more basket in 3OT in the 1957 Championship, then both Kansas and North Carolina would be tied at 5 each. What a difference a couple baskets can make.
