Nebraska was a very good team this year. Thei NU offense revolved all around their running game and Taylor (qb). Jimmy Johnson and Dave Wannsted had a great game plan against them. Leonard Conley had a great game. Nebraska defense played very well, but field position was a factor and the UM defense dominated all game long. Amazing performance.
@@pabrod2001 I've heard they somehow got there snap count down or something to the effect . Why they where always in there backfield. Somehow they stole or knew there cadence. Miami really didn't do shit on offense , Nebraska defense played well enough to make it a game. It was the offense.
Pure Fury No because they were better and big 8 teams are one dimensional and primitive in their approach. Osborne even started recruiting speed more because of Miami. Anyway isn’t Nebraska a top program anyway? They just needed some players and more to play with the Miami’s and Florida State’s at the time.
Call Me Snake 👍 They also beatMichigan, Norte Dame, Michigan St., LSU, Florida, Florida St., etc. OU which beat Nebraska from 84- 87, was beaten by Miami 3 times!
Don criqui which is a commentator of this game was constantly talking about miami running up the score. Miami has 23 point. Don Criqui commentated the 1983 national championship win of Miami and Nebraska. and he bragged about Nebraska beating Minnesota 84-13. His words looking at Nebraska was like looking at basketball scores . Don said jimmy Johnson running up the score. And praised Mr Tom Osborne ( neb 44-penn state 6/ Nebraska 84 Minnesota 13/Nebraska 63 Syracuse 7/ Nebraska 69 Colorado 19 / ( Nebraska 67 Kansas 13 ) all in the 1983 season. Well in the end Miami beat Nebraska that season also to become the National champions
A lot of s*** talking going on here we have to go down there and play in the Orange Bowl I just want to see how many times in Miami beats us if they have to come up here in January and play
I saw the 88 Orange Bowl on you tube , early in game saw Maryland on sideline I don't remember him playing in that game. The great Cortez Kennedy did not start this game. What a defensive.
Nebraska’s defense did about as much as they could to keep the points down by Miami, but the Husker offense was crushed in this game. At least the Huskers lost to the champions instead of some lesser bowl game.
My Huskers got dominated in this game. Miami had so much speed, strength and talent at every position. But I believe Notre Dame won the Championship this year after beating West Virginia?
@@ellieonile9515 That is correct.....but face it.....that year in the Mia-ND game, Cleveland Gary didn't fumble as he was over the goal line in South Bend when the ball came out. Anywhere else, he's got a TD. At Notre Dame, it's a touch back. So Miami loses 31-30 when they had to go for two later on. So yes, ND "won" a national title but Miami WAS INDEED the best team and decidedly proved it a year later in Miami when the ND offense was held to 3 points in a blowout loss. Take away ND's '88 fake title and they go back what, to the early 70s when they last won. WOW!!!
tracyisbest That is total Bullshit. It was a fumble, the ball was clearly coming out before it crossed the line. If Miami was wrongfully awarded a touchdown there it ties the game and you have no idea how the game would have unfolded. What was your excuse for Notre Dame kicking Miami’s ass in 1990 in south bend??? I would like to know what excuse you come up with for that ND beat down of “the u.”
@@donnix768 You beat us in 90. But the whole world knows you stole the game with that bullshit fumble call and we royally kicked your ass the following year. Badly.
He was actually accused of running it up in this game. But with a 23-3 final score, it wasn't exactly a blowout. As Jimmy put it, "58-7 I can understand. But 23-3? I did take offense to that."
@@8avexp But that's the thing. He tried and couldn't. The defense played light's out. Nebraska's. If they had any type of offense they had a chance. Holding that Cane team to 23 points gets the win with any type of offense. Nebraska's offense laid an egg and why they lost this game.
@@8avexp Yeah Jimmy. You know you where trying. You couldn't. Nebraska held your team to 23 points. A miracle considering how long they where out there. The turn overs 3 and outs. Miami's defense was great 👍. But I think it's More Nebraska's offense getting punked.
It’s not Jimmy Johnson’s job to stop his team it’s the other teams job. Your a college athlete and Nebraska has a history of running up scores so I don’t feel like Jimmy should have gotten a bad rap for not pulling the dogs off
Nah he , Osborne, never ran up score's deliberately. They where primarily a running team under Osborne. One running up the scores where ghettofabulus U. Asides that they're ( Miami) playing a dam home game. Ridiculous. Let's see them come up to Lincoln like 2014 and see what would happen. Especially with the weather conditions that time of year. Nebraska would have won a few more of these.
Johnson was upset all the ass kicking Nebraska did on his shitty Oklahoma State teams lol Nebraska's defense did enough this game for Nebraska to make a game out of it ..even though Johnson tried to run up the score, they got only 23 points..trust me he was trying to score 100. Miami defense did punk Nebraska's offense. That's where the game was won.. If they implemented more zone reads single wing like used later they would have gashed Miami as they sold out .
ralfigs Some of them scores that Nebraska hung up in 95 says otherwise. Barry Switzer has no shame in admitting that Oklahoma would love to hang half a hundred on the rest of the Big 8.
@@allengreene9954 I don't think he's deliberately running up score's. If you have the third string in, all positions pretty much he's pulled the starters, and they're still scoring on running plays that's not his fault. Yeah that 95 team I believe took a knee inside the 10 , the last min ( Matt thurman 3rd string QB) took a knee inside the 10 in their blowout vs Florida. Could you see Switzer, Meyers , Johnson , Saban taking knees ? No they'd probably pass it or do a trick plays and the media would love it.
@@LizardCaneif Nebraska had had got to play Miami in Lincoln for some of these national championship games Tom Osborne has six or seven national championships that was not a fair advantage to make them have to play them in Miami every time yeah Miami was great but so was Nebraska mid '90s Nebraska would have beaten Miami wherever they played them but the earlier Nebraska teams late '80s if you play those games in Lincoln I think they win at least one of them
I've watched this game 2 or 3 times over the years. This time I noticed at 1:14:40 #6 of Nebraska puts an extra twist on #35's left leg (the one that the trainers are looking at) after he is down . I never noticed that before, but it seemed a deliberate attempt (successful?) to injure..
