In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this suv while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this suv designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

last year my dad asked me if I would be interested in a jeep Cherokee, 1989, a guy he worked with had a friend selling one for a grand. this was the first video i watched as i looked up 1989 jeep cherokee. we went out, looked at it, figured well take it, fix it up, play with it until it blows up or Maybe flip it. well, I started to work on it, simple things that I could do. within the following weeks he was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung cancer. 6 months later, he lost his battle (october, 2015). the day after his service I took the Jeep to the woods and she did great. and I'm still working on our project. it's come a long way dad. I put a new motor in it, put lights on it, gave it a limited slip rear axle, a new transfer case, today I bought like-new, used tires. every time I would fix something I'd come in and tell you how it rides or behaves. now when I fix or buy something to put on our jeep I want to show you so bad. working on our jeep is one of the few ways I feel connected with you. everyone wonders why I have such an emotional attachment to this beater of a Cherokee I've rescued from the grave. I love it, and I see my dad in it. and nobody knows that

In my opinion, these were the toughest Jeep's ever built. The older 4.0 and 4.0 high output was the best motor. Had a 92 Cherokee and no matter how much you abused that thing she always ran perfectly

I'm not interested in all these new computerized motors, damn them all to hell! I love you jeep You are my friend Forgive me of my sins May I run strong and true, like you do. May your exhaust fumes and swift movement enlighten my soul into everlasting bliss Bless you jeep. #tears #conviction
@mikeg3529
@mikeg3529 9 лет назад
Jeff Monahan Not to burst your bubble, but this jeep uses a computer to control its fuel injection. Even worse, its uses some outdated "renix" EFI system that isnt supported by....anyone. Also, if you listen closely around 4:15.... sounds like the beginning of rod knock.
@justindent3813
@justindent3813 9 лет назад
Michael G A computer to control the EFI system is nothing compared to vehicles nowadays. And yeah it's starting to get rod knock, but at 214,000 miles, there's no shame for it even though they regularly go to 300k plus, especially after looking at the condition of the exterior. It makes me think somebody didn't care for it as they should have
@mikeg3529
@mikeg3529 9 лет назад
Justin Dent Oh yeah, something out of the normal was done to this jeep. Either it was pushed too hard and that knock is from fatigue failure, or they didn't change the oil for long periods of time.

these older jeep Cherokee Laredo units can run well past 300,000 miles and still have a solid engine!! I am happy to say I've got a 1989 Laredo with the 4.0 6cylinder and 5 speed manual tranny. mine is right at 215,000 miles and a solid daily driver.

I just recently bought a 1987 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0. It's light beige (compared to the Jeep Wrangler Mojave). Bought it for $900, it has just above 200,000 miles. No dents or scratches and the interior is almost perfect. It's getting some work done to it, but I'm going to leave it stock and keep it as my daily driver. So far I love it, it's extremely comfortable, and I love the classic style to it. No cup holders (which I am fine with) with all power locks and windows. Wish the windows were manual (cranked) but I'm just glad I got the Jeep.

Oh man. Seeing this video brought back memories of my 1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. It was my first car given to me by my pops when I was 16 and I loved that Jeep but it had to go when it started to give me problems. I noticed on the battery meter that the gauge was over on the negative side. Mine did that too and towards the end of its run with me, it would idle very weakly and stall. At one point I even had the alternator replaced and it kept doing it. Oh well. Like I said, this video brought back good memories. Mine wasn't 4x4 and it was a dark/navy blue with grey trim and grey interior. Good times in that Jeep.

Classic piston slap at 4:15. That's the thing with 80's and 90's Jeeps -- even if half the power train is worn out it still works properly and doesn't fail on you.
